you know what? phil sucks and deserves no benefit of the doubt, but that seems like a poorly designed turn, it would take a second for it to register to me too

Didn't watch this but we have a streamer lawsuit:

Quote:This lawsuit is about ending the practice of lazy reaction videos that copy entire copyrighted works and purposefully siphon views and revenue away from the original.
Quote:This case involves a “group viewing session” hosted by Defendant Alexandra Marwa Saber f/k/a Marwa Talatt Abdelmonem p/k/a Denims (“Denims”). Denims specifically intended her “group viewing session” to siphon views and revenue away from TEI’s copyrighted works: (1) Content Nuke: Hasan Piker (“The Nuke”); and (2) The H3 Show #105: Countdown to Doomsday (“Countdown Episode”) (collectively, the “Works”). Denims timed her “group viewing sessions” to coincide with the exact moment TEI released the Works. Her timing was intended to capitalize on the intense public interest in the Works and siphon the maximum amount of views and revenue away from the Works to herself by showing the Works in their entirety (or nearly in their entirety).

So he copyrighted the video with the library of congress? Wonder how it'll go.

in the thumbnail, his head looks enormous on his tiny body. Like it was a .5 camera effect.

The video title should say "my big ol head is coming to get you!!!"

you have to officially copyright something, filing it with the copyright office and paying the registration fee, before you can sue for copyright infringement

essentially it's to make sure that the office finds nothing wrong with your claim that the work is yours, in order to not waste the court's time

this is what stymied karla ortiz in her lawsuit against various AI image generators, the judge threw out most of her claims because she hadn't bothered to formally copyright her own works which she said were being copied

I always find it funny that you have to officially copyright stuff over there (Benji please correct me if I'm wrong). Copyright is implied here. There's no need to register anything.

"Hey babe, don't start the recording yet...I need to hookup the pickle mic for this one."

What do you mean 'what pickle mic?'...the fucking giant pickle mic. The big turgid green one! It's completely absurd and embarrassing to use, you've seen it--fuck it, I'll get it myself!"

*storms off, noisily rummaging through a box filled closet of extremely expensive and rarely used novelty streaming equipment*

*comes back 3 hours later*

"...phew, fuck. Ok, THIS is the pickle mic, god. Oh you recognize it now, of course, bully for you. *sarcastic clapping* Thanks for nothing. Just hit record."

*brusquely straightens out rumpled clothes, in a hasty effort to appear at-ease. The clothes self-rumple immediately after he stops fussing with them. Recording light comes on*

"Hey everybody this is Ethan Klein with my pickle mic and my big ol head is comin to get you!!!"

from what I understand, copyright is still implied here, you still have an implied copyright over everything you make the moment you make it, it's just that if you get embroiled in legal matters you're going to have to be able to prove that you have copyright over it, and having it officially filed is the best way to do that

presumably the value of the assumed copyright is to maintain a general culture of respecting others' works so things don't have to rise to the level of a court case

even in other countries, if there's a dispute over copyright, surely there's some chain of events to prove it's yours and you made it, some sort of minor burden other than just your word

But... its a fact that this happens in Iran?

Quote:In a November 2007 meeting with his British counterpart, Iranian member of parliament Mohsen Yahyavi admitted that the government in Iran believes in the death penalty for homosexuality. According to Yahyavi, gays deserve to be executed. He said that if they do it privately then it's okay but if they do it overtly then they are to be executed.[34]

LGBT rights activists Zahra Seddiqi Hamedani and Elham Choubdar were sentenced to death in 2021 by a court in Iran for "promoting homosexuality, promoting Christianity and communicating with media opposed to the Islamic Republic". The sentence was confirmed by Iran's judiciary, but said the charges involved "human trafficking and not activism".[35] On September 5, 2022, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported that the two women had been sentenced to death on charges of "corruption on earth" and human trafficking. The European Union condemned the death sentences on September 13, 2022.[36]

I've been watching the h3h3 liveshow for the past few weeks and if you can judge someone by the enemies they keep, Ethan might just be the most saintly person ever to live.

Ok, at the very real and serious risk of defending a streamer--one who recklessly sends his big ol head after people!--I gotta wonder what danger is posed by posting the name of a stalker online?

Is she being stalked by a spirit bomb?

So is suicide baiting the new grift?

It looks like Ethan is forcing Gofundmesupporters to be spread thin by having 3+ lawsuits at once. How will the lefty stream watchers be able to support all of them?

Time to choose one.  Hmph

Or will Hasan foot the bill for all his fellow comrades?
