Look, I know not all Americans (and not just Americans either), but for fuck's sake the number of times I have seen Americans with some wild takes on hate speech, usually some variation of:

American: Well, you see, these laws just allow the government to do the thing that *insert thing the American government does without having anti-hate speech laws*.

Non-American: Yeah, but if a government doesn't want to respect a law, they can just not respect some other law.

American: Slippery slope.


No law protects a government from tyrannical action, if the government actually wants to do said action, especially not when the government has enough power to change the fucking laws, legal laws are not the laws of physics.

I know Brazil, by virtue of being a country in South America is seen as less civilized by a fair amount of you guys (as Portuguese glass houses and all), but like as hard as it is to believe people have thought through the consequences of said laws, and have, perhaps I'm going to take a wild guess and say written them in a way to minimize said potential bad side effects.

We can even look at one of the examples being brought up about Palestine, you know who has anti hate-speech laws and is also extremely anti-Palestine? Germany, which for those who slept through history classes is the country which had that funny mustache guy that you Americans defeated all on your own, and we can look at how they have treated Palestinian protesters.
Have they been well treated, absolutely fucking not, but certainly not more horrifically than the US which is 1 supreme court decision away from determining that shooting some trans athlete is free speech.


Having laws which allow for hate speech is projecting jack fucking shit, except ofc those people who wish to enact hate speech.

A trans software engineer fired by Wikipedia is speaking out after she filed a lawsuit against the nonprofit website claiming wrongful termination.

Kayla Mae said that the “bigotry” described in her suit is “organization wide” and that most of her former colleagues “are as against the problems in leadership as I was.”

“Unfortunately, I became the squeaky wheel for management to retaliate against by reporting the discrimination,” Mae wrote on Reddit, “instead of quietly leaving like others did.”

Mae was hired in 2022 by the Wikimedia Foundation, the website’s parent organization, as a software engineer in a remote role based in Texas, The Desk reported in May. Her direct supervisor was based in Kenya.

The lawsuit states that from the moment the neurodivergent, transgender woman was hired, she faced abuse and harassment by her supervisor, leading her to file complaints with Wikimedia Foundation’s human resources department.

Among other things, her supervisor asked her inappropriate questions about her sexual identity and inquired about her medical history. In emails to HR, Mae characterized other behavior by the supervisor as “transphobic microaggressions” and “ableism”. She wrote that the situation made her “dread work.”

A woman who is suing the Wikimedia Foundation for gender discrimination and wrongful termination filed a similar workplace discrimination lawsuit against a different employer three years ago, The Desk has learned.

The woman, Kayla Mae — who also goes by the name Kayla Morgan — employed the same attorney and law firm in a discrimination case brought against a Texas-based company called Security Brands, where she alleged ongoing workplace abuse and harassment because of her sexual orientation.

In both cases, Mae first filed a complaint with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and received letters that informed her of her right to sue. She hired Dallas-based Daryl Sinkule to represent her in the first case, and Sinkule is her attorney of record in the case against the Wikimedia Foundation.

In her first lawsuit, Mae said she worked as a senior software developer for Security Brands in 2020. From the moment she was hired, Mae says she was subjected to harassment because of her gender identity as a “lesbian female who presents as masculine.”

“She is sometimes perceived as transgender, although she is not,” the complaint read.

In both cases, Mae said her supervisors subjected her to sexual harassment and discrimination. At Security Brands, the human resources director reportedly told Mae that she didn’t “agree with your lifestyle” and encouraged her to “follow Jesus” one week before terminating her employment.

Mae worked for Security Brands for about two months before her employment was terminated. In a motion to dismiss, Security Brands said Mae “was a lackluster software developer” and “refused to take direction or feedback on her work.”

It's a great show, but it deals with tyranny and authoritarianism, so every idiot thinks that it's FOR their version of authoritarianism and AGAINST the other guys' version of it.

Just like 1984, Fahrenheit 451 and Animal Farm are constantly misinterpreted to be only against "the other team", idiots think the message in Andor is only that The Empire=Bad. However, it is very clear in Andor that even though the Empire is bad, the Rebellion in itself is a corrupting force that makes good people do evil things in the name of "freedom". 

The theme really is "what price are you willing to pay for freedom".

Anyway, sorry for the carepost at the top of the page.
