Yikes, this forum sounds very unsafe for women unlike The Bire.
The Sabrina Carpenter thread just keeps on getting better and better, because now...

Ladies and Gentlemen...

Megacunt ZeoVGM has entered the building  lol

And launched straight into a slapfight with Dice herself!

https://www.resetera.com/threads/sabrina-carpenter-announces-7th-album-mans-best-friend-out-august-29-new-single-manchild-out-now.1215972/page-6#post-141392472

ZeoVGM wrote:I think that if you are someone who is made uncomfortable by the cover, that's completely understandable. Everyone has their own reasons for disliking art that might push their personal boundaries.

But this ain't it.

If you think the album cover sucks, that's a valid opinion. But the idea that women need to think about "the optics" before doing a photoshoot because their rights are under attack by Republicans is pretty damn backwards thinking.

It's her body and her art. And this take is made worse by your later implication that she isn't the one in control of her own body

Until Sabrina Carpenter comes out and says she's being forced or pressured to have this image and do photoshoots like this, we should assume that it's her decision.

Dice wrote:lol sure. I like how you admit it's a problem in the industry but DEFINITELY NOT this case.
And even if so, fuck that. Me personally doesn't have to adore a woman who wants to resort to cheap titillation and label it "empowering". That's in the eye of the beholder and based on experience. And I've personally had way too many guys be creeps to me or say degrading shit to me to find the album cover "adorable".

Some woman might enjoy the attention and play into it. But others do nothing to deserve it and still get it anyways. Women get a lot of creepy attention from a young age; again this is less about being "prudish" and knowing we live in a world that absolutely seeks to take advantage of one's desire for stardom or fame, and how easily that QUICKLY can turn into sexual imagery.
Like you keep trying to make this simple when it's buried deep deep deep in social norms and historical contexts. And that's why it's controversial.

If men and women were freely able to expose themselves in a similar way because the world was fair, I think the story would be way different. But women's sexuality is still the one often being marketed like 90% of the time.

ZeoVGM wrote:She has literally given interviews that make it overwhelmingly clear that this is her image because she wants it to be.

You are the one making assumptions in the face of Sabrina herself making it clear that this is her.

Is there a single post in this thread that has implied anything like this? You absolutely do not have to adore her.

You're replying to me here with that comment but you ignored my original reply to you in which I said this:

My issue was not with you disliking the photoshoot. My issue was with your take that Sabrina (or any woman) should need to think of "the optics" before doing a photoshoot like this. Your opinion seems to be that because women's rights are in danger, Sabrina Carpenter needs to think of "the optics" before doing a photoshoot. I think that's nonsense.

Your opinion that the photoshoot sucks or is tacky is not a problem. But the other stuff is just you policing how she presents herself as if there's a right and wrong way to do so under the Trump administration.

Dice wrote:lol if you think optics aren't any part of marketing I dont know what to tell you.

There is no way most parts of a marketing team and photoshoot aren't a very very conscious decision. And a lot of people ain't goin' crazy for this one.

ZeoVGM wrote:This is another thing I didn't say. You keep putting words in my mouth.

But you are specifically saying that she shouldn't do a photoshoot like this because Republicans are trying to take away women's rights. You are saying that a woman should not do what she wants to do with her own body because Republicans are trying to take away her rights.

Do you really not see how counterproductive that is?

Dice wrote:Would it help if I said I take it back? (I mean, not really, but enough) I'm Canadian so I'm free of most of the US 's foolishness. But I do think men generally treat women like trash and I think this cover reinforces that idea whether it intentionally wants to or not.

And what I'm saying is definitely not controversial. Like if I had a nickel for often "women's sexuality" was played up as "power" I'd be rich and little would change the reality that women have to struggle with image issues constantly.

Last post was from Dice, 8 minutes ago, so I'll update this later.

Sabrina thread is honestly so very entertaining. There's a ton of slapfights between various people that it's hard to keep up.

Dice vs Fat4All
Dice vs ZeoVGM
Dice vs Excelsiorf
Excelsiorf vs ventuno

One thing is for sure. Dice is totally in the wrong.

But there's something hilarious about these ultra-prudes who shit themselves at the mere sight of a female tit suddenly defending Sabrina Carpenters right to show herself photographed ready to give a blowjob  lol

And even funnier is seeing all these dudes mansplaining to Dice and not getting banned.

The irony.

Absolutely terminally online.

Also people always just say "it's the patriarchy's fault" and then never elaborate. Like cool, I know that according to you everything is the patriarchy so how exactly does this help solve the problem?

"People keep drowning we need to do something"

"It's the oceans fault"

"....cool, let's consider draining the ocean for later"

They also keep saying "OOOOOHHH SO YOU WANT WOMEN TO SAVE MEN???" and it's just... no, who is actually saying that? They're saying that the democratic party needs to attract young men again.

The Democrats need to just pull the band-aid off and admit that a certain type of woman has driven men away from the party.
Dice is taking the older feminist position, I respect* that considering where she's posting and how often the men (and women) there flatten feminism down to a single mandatory position: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminist_sex_wars

*even if she is Canadian

Who exactly was radicalized by this HR cringe session? Or because some rando you followed on Nazitter said something bad about it, you conflated that to being a major cultural shift?

99.9% of people completely forgot that video existed 24 hours after it appeared in their feed.
I’m gonna be extremely gay* here and say I have more sympathy for Dice. Outside of pat “right” and “wrong” judgments, she has real perspective as a real woman, and respectable ~feminism~ still wrestles with the intersections of objectification and agency, and what is the line for self-sabotage even when it is consciously chosen. Porn, of course, is far from a settled subject.

Meanwhile, the NuWomyn are crying about Mai having big booba, and then saying “shut up bitch” to a real woman who questions the tagline of Man’s Best Friend. All while spending 3000 mutual aid bucks per second on gacha to enjoy high-femme anime upskirts.

To wit:

Quote:what is the line for self-sabotage even when it is consciously chosen

With the requirement of always supporting those below you regardless of validity, she didn't realize what would happen when she wholeheartedly supported the idea of men as women and now here we are; Women(who are men) telling real women how to feel and what to think.
No one understands feminism like someone who was socialized as a white male for 40 years.
I can't believe ZeoVagina is mansplaining to a woman, time to cancel his future streaming   Feels bad, man

As I've said before, I don't think social is evil if properly moderated and not preying on their audience and I think a safe spaces for teens and kids online for them to discuss their feelings, find help, find people like themselves etc can be incredibly useful, especially for LGBTQ+ and Autistic kids (says one who likely wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for find a wonderful community online that helped through my darkest moments).

Right, let teens find people lile themselves with other teens not adults who would take advantage to groom them.

The irony the ChatGPT would make such a thread.
The Carpenter empowerment debate reminded me of this all time great video by the Onion

The Onion seems to have remove the original from their channel. I guess we can't say skank anymore.
That Sabrina Carpenter thread is basically the proof that these “Women” can’t keep up the facade, and ultimately underneath them is white knights they actually are.

It probably isn't a precise analogue for any vice, but it must be regulated and if the providers refuse to regulate it then yes, bans are appropriate.

These cops can't go five minutes without demanding the cops arrest anyone who might do something they enjoy.

They never say how it should be regulated, just that it should be. The all wise knowing white supremacist capitalists that run every country they need to flee from will just know what to do, you can trust them.

The closest I've seen them ever get, but they never say directly only based on what they complain about, is they want the state to mandate that social media deliberately show you things you don't want. Even as they complain that every form of social media shows them stuff they don't want to see.
The Sabrina Carpenter thread is pretty funny all around.

Dice reveals that she doesn't really care about agency or whatever, it's all about the optics and the political climate. Very oldschool feminist. (Until she buys her xenoblade 2 amiibos)

Meanwhile the same guys who always cry that you have to listen to women don't give a shit about her opinion.

Basically I like no one's position here but I do like to watch them fight.

Not an example of the patriarchy that they're whining about in that other thread btw.
I can understand Dice's point and I feel for her. "Sexual empowerment" isn't great when you have a marketing team behind it with the sole purpose of getting as many eyes on it as possible and pandering to the male gaze does that.

Persephone and Fiction show up sometimes, though the former claims to not be a woman now like Nepenthe unless she needs to be also like Nepenthe.

I want to say there's a couple others, sex worker AliceAmber for example, but it's really not an exaggeration to say they have single digits female prominent members.
"It's so sexually empowering!" men scream, "It was all my idea!" Sabrina proclaims on the media trail.

Sure, Jan. Sure.  Wink
