“Every day, I come by your house and I pick you up.
I saw Reckoning today.

It wasn't the best Mission Impossible to watch if you don't remember shit from the previous movies. Though they do give you tons of flashbacks and expository dialogue so they can retcon stuff to make this goofy plot work.

The biplane scene was top notch tho

So Sinners turned out be pretty great. A lot more character set up than I expected and the music was on point. I never thought I'd see vampires doing a jig. Hopefully there's a sequel.

Watched half of Wolfs and, whether or not it’s to blame is questionable, I started dozing off. Might finish it later.

The premise is fun but it lacks a type of energy. You’d think the point of having Clooney and Brad Pitt as the two guys would be to capture some of the Oceans movie vibe. They also keep referencing Clooney being the old timer when him and Pitt are the same age.

Now I’m reading they’re further building out the Oceansverse with a prequel. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are playing the parents of Daniel Ocean. Set in 1960s Europe and directed by the Austin Powers guy. Then there will be Ocean’s Fourteen. And it says here a crossover with Magic Mike?

The Accountant 2 is fun.

At some point I remember seeing a “now with twice the autism!” joke. But actually, it’s true. Movie opens with him optimizing and reverse engineering a dating service. All the women there line up to meet him. Only in person he’s a turbo autist and they all get scared away. One lady is talking about wanting kids and he goes “umm you’re 45. Statistically… well.” Later there’s a bit where he's making an important call and you initially only see the receivers end. When it cuts to him, he’s been in his trailer playing with a toy lightsaber. Towards the end he randomly gives his opinion on that 90s Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon set in a post apocalyptic world and how Sally predates Amy Rose yet the Sega corporation ignores her.

Just watched and I'd say you almost undersold it. Ben Afflecks hacker friend for example has now her own little squad of hacker kids who are of course also all autistic. One of the hostages is autistic too and even the semi-villain is a savant. It's all a bit silly but Ben Afflecks and Jon Bernthals dynamic was genuinely great.
Enjoyable movie.

From the director himself:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Accountant_2#Future wrote:In September 2021, O'Connor revealed plans to expand The Accountant into a trilogy of movies. With production slated to be completed with the second installment, the filmmaker categorized the third movie as a buddy film; calling the project "Rain Man on steroids".

Immaculate. Sidney Sweeney in a nun's uniform. Noice. The actual film starts off ok, but jump scares, a rushed ending and no wlw kind of ruins it.

Started watching Snow White remake to see how bad it was...my daughter says halfway through, "Is anyone actually watching this? Can I turn it off?"

No one objected.

Death of a Unicorn was great...questionable CGI and all.

The Ring, The Ring 2

Figured I might finally get those off my watch list. Never saw them back in 2000 but unavoidably knew a lot about them already just through sheer cultural osmosis so I was always a bit curious if they deserved the hype.

The Ring 1 was great, right away big choice with the extreme color grading that creates a wonderful atmosphere. A whole lot of the visual language also still feels quite modern and I'd say in some ways you can see the groundwork being laid for A24 Type horror movies here. Generally pretty low on the gore and more about a moody atmosphere.

Now the Ring 2 felt like a total whiplash, gone was the color grading and the whole movie had a more... old school vibe. Looked up that the sequel was made by the director of the original Japanese movies which I guess explains that change, and while I like the idea of giving the reigns to the original creator I think it was the wrong move here as it keeps the western adaptions from being consistent. Generally a bit more CGI focus here, with some cool moments like the floating bathwater scene but overall a much weaker narrative and atmosphere. I checked the ratings later online and was not surprised to see that the sequel was critically maligned.

Some day I'll probably check out the original Japanese one which I believe some people say is the best version.

Oh, also Naomi Watts is such a beauty, I mean godamn.

Looks a little less B-movie and more high budget to me.

Still, I'm go see it. Dinklage looks really into the role there.

The two things I’ve seen people saying about it are

Spoiler:  (click to show)
there are Jimmy Saville power rangers using ninjutsu to fight infected?

there’s a 7ft tall infected guy throughout the movie, with his foot long hog flopping all over the place?

I haven’t seen it yet but it was filmed on farms up near my house

So if you’re curious about what my place looks like well now you know

I didn't read those spoilers but what is bad about it in a non-spoiler way?

Ready or Not. Decent fun horror with not Margot Robbie.  I thought it was her but apparently it’s another Aussie who looks exactly like her. It’s weird. No doubt they’ll do a film together sometime.

Very disjointed film which tries to add a whole bunch of lore inconsistent with the first two films.

It's not sure whether it wants to be a zombie flick, an Apocalypse Now knockoff, or a coming of age film. The ending then goes and pisses all over any credibility the franchise had.

It also commits the unforgiveable crime of being a boring zombie movie.

Edit: I have been trying to work out what it reminded me of and I finally pinpointed it. Much like Ridley Scott returning to the Alien franchise because he wanted to make a religious-themed movie but knew he would only get the budget if he attached the Alien name to it, this feels like a movie that started life as a completely different thing that got attached to the 28 Days Later name so it would get the budget and a 3-movie deal.

Edit 2: Shower thought. It felt more like a long episode of The Walking Dead than a 28 Days Later film.

I don't mind if it's slow or not a zombie film or not true to the series but is it a good story or nah? I read a reddit thread and the responses ranges from "I liked it" to "worst movie i've seen in theatres"

I don't mind slow movies. One of my favourite movies of all time is The Twilight Samurai. This is not slow, it's just boring.

Now that I know it's a planned trilogy, it's very obvious it's a first act dragged out to feature length film runtime.

I liked most of it but it's very clearly a part 1, almost shamelessly so, was surprised when the credits rolled.
