I will say: I find the moderation tone of "I'm the adult in the room, you are embarrassing us, please shape up kiddos" to be obnoxious at the best of times, and it's doubly obnoxious when moderation is clearly and transparently in the wrong, like with that thread.

I know this forum is resistant to discussions on tone and temperament but it's honestly a throughline that runs through like 90% of the staff issues here. The rule of thumb being "just don't be assholes" rings extremely hollow when the message being delivered is condescending or aggressive or accusatory.

I feel like this thread is designed to contain discontenment. It's like a doctor that doesn't have any answers, so they give a placebo and say to return in two weeks hoping that the patient will either magically get better or will just give up.

I mean, that’s exactly it. It’s a containment thread. It always has been. There’s no discussion. There’s discontentment, followed by a Pokemon tournament or dice app, I guess.

Quite frankly, most moderation decisions make complete sense when you realize that the mods seemingly have nothing but contempt for the majority of the user base. That kind of super-cynicism can’t be fun or healthy for anyone involved.

It's always been tough to make a living doing art - the "starving artist" trope exists for a reason.  There are good artists that get paid a shitload and have their work appreciated by many and have the ability to pick and choose what commissions they want to do because there's a line out the door waiting on them.  But many do work a ton of hours to produce works that don't sell for that much.  What exactly do you want out of the world?  To force people to buy art at higher prices from people they don't appreciate the work of?  There's nothing you can do about this.  You either try to become one of the lucky few that can dazzle people with amazing art and become a high-demand artist and charge a lot of money for it, or you don't?  Is this like a general complaint against humanity or something?  What does she want solved here?  An economic system where the government pays artists to make art nobody wants?  I don't understand.   

I think jealousy plays a role. They hate their jobs/life and secretly wish they would have artistic talent or craft.

I don’t think every single game in development hell should be cancelled, just cause you never know what it would result (hello, Fortnite) but 7 years just to get a vertical slice.

Games get cancelled all the time. Looking at PD in retrospect, especially now that someone in the know has stated much of what we saw wasn't actually real, and understanding why it was cancelled is not the same thing as hoping people lose their jobs over it. That's an unhelpful remark. Unless you can cite specific examples.

Ascribing rationale where it is none but just a pure greed is not only unhelpful but harmful in big scheme of things. (like so many reports of studios delivering beyond imagination and still being hit with layoffs i.e Insomaniac).

Compartmentalizing this whole situation to point out that "this one specific project" wasn't coming along so it makes economic sense. This is non-sense and brainrot.

I shouldn't be suprised I guess, that's fanboy brain at work: always compartmentalizing to ease off any discomfort in safety blanket of "ackchyually it make economic sense" when it is absolutely not what it is all about.
