I don't know what the actual solution for this would be, but when a poster makes it clear they have it out for you, while maybe not breaking any rules, I feel like it's worth documenting (me, not moderation) just for the sake of contextualizing things. They'll be ignored 99% of the time, but can I have that 1% exception to completely address the pattern when they make it fully transparent without it being labeled as antagonizing or hostile.

As Fat4all correctly pointed out, being more specific in what we write here is only inviting trouble. I've had issues with a specific staff member's post but usually just scrolled by. Once, in a politics thread (because of course lol), that staff member was arguing with a bunch of people, was clearly unfamiliar with some of the basic stuff discussed in that thread but was smug to everyone anyway. I quoted one of the posts that was full of blatantly incorrect information, corrected them and gave the necessary context to explain what was discussed in that topic.

Well, the staff member went through my post history and banned me in retaliation for something that was 2 weeks old at that time. The post was ripped out of context, misrepresented and misunderstood (further proving my original point in the other thread). A flimsy excuse was found and used to retaliate. I appealed the ban, but whoever looked at it just immediately dismissed it, stood by the other staff member and closed the ticket so that I couldn't reply again.

I hope this doesn't count as ban litigation and that I won't be threadbanned or something, but this incident goes a few months back at this point. Ever since then I simply want to remove that staff member from my Era browsing experience, because they don't give me anything positive. It's simply one of many things that have soured the atmosphere of the forum and given the utter refusal of apologizing even when blatantly wrong (like the DK BANanza), despite claiming that they'd do so if necessary, keeps making things worse. No idea who told staff that doubling down is a good strategy, all it does is increasing the frustration of the members. You know, the community. The ones who use, hell, who are the website.

IIRC this is cut out of context to make it seem much worse than it is. He has never defended the annexation of Crimea. He simply said that this event is different to the invasion of Ukraine, due to some legal scholars believing the former to be "justified" due to the Russian population in the area. Hasan has had plenty of bad takes over the years, but this one is just disingenuous and not in line with his actual stance on the matter.

As for the Hitler part what he said isn't controversial at all and makes perfect sense once you think about what is said instead of looking to be outraged:
There are myriads of reasons of why Hitler was bad. Of course annexing Austria is one of those reasons. But compared to the fucking Holocaust the Annexation of Austria doesn't top the list.

I don't understand what you're advocating for here... keeping a diary of everyone's who you've had a disagreement with on the forum? I guess there's no issue with you doing that but you might end up falling foul of the rules around rooting through people's post histories to use against them (even if that's not exactly what you're doing). I've seen people banned for that before.

This is an example of how this stuff starts. You know that's not what I'm saying, so why even type that out just for the sake of making my point seem silly.

I can disagree with people and get along fine with them.

I'm talking reoccurring issues of personal attacks. Someone overtly having it out for you and being able to show examples of it.

So basically if I respond bluntly to this person, know that things lead up to this instead of presuming it was just this isolated thing where I decided to be a dick for no reason.

For context, I got a really baffling gotcha this morning and I had to wonder how much do my posts bother this person that they bought up this completely irrelevant thing in a review thread of all places to dismiss my point and ultimately say nothing.

You misrepresenting my post is something I've noted before. I'm not taking it personally, but if you do it half a dozen more times, I want to be able to say "I talked to them about this at least three times" before responding bluntly.

The main point being, while that response might seem harsh, it didn't come from nowhere. And I still made the effort not to break any rules or insult them personally. That's what I want to be able to communicate to mods.

Just for the benefit of people who were wondering why everyone was skirting around naming names, this post that received a threadban for ignoring the rules of the thread is why. Because the OP asks us "not to call out specific members or moderators". So now you'll understand when people don't say Voldemort ITT.

I think that instead of silently and permanently thread banning people from the only feedback thread available it would be better to respond to the posts they made and have a discussion.

As stated in the thread rules, ban litigation is not allowed, even more if it includes stating conjectures about the reasoning as facts.

This thread is for conversation and feedback on general matters, as we were having it. For everything else, there's the ticket system and DMs

That would be interesting to see, considering kayos' moderation history was misrepresented by staff earlier, to the point where kayos got unbanned. So who even knows if Vaenyr did misrepresent their ban or not.

And of course, the consequences for misrepresenting moderation history is not quite the same if you do it as a user than if you do it as staff... :P

And look, I understand why y'all don't want everyone to complain about their individual bans here (I was on your side of the fence, and I remember how annoying and unsustainable it would be if you let everyone do that at all times -- and I also remember that some users did misrepresent their bans, this happened all the time -- but sometimes it's not them that do the misrepresenting, as I said above...).
But bringing up the tickets system... Criticisms of the ticket system has come up numerous times here and without any apparent improvement. You can't just point to the tickets as a solution because it's frankly just not one.

Moreover, it's frustrating to see staff take the time to be active in this thread to moderate these users and reply to a few posts (the latter is appreciated, obviously) but then completely skip over and ignore posts like this or this. It only adds more evidence that we're walking on eggshells.

This thread is a reminder that us vs them sucks when "them" has all the power and the rest of us are just left to their mercy, whims and moods.

The quick threadbans is gross and just another example our feedback not being given any kind of thought.

Seems like that DK thread discussion isn’t going to continue. Thank you to the mods that did come in and discuss the things they could speak to, at the least.

I bought cyberpunk on PS4 at launch digital, got it refunded on PSN when they offered cos it was a piece of shit that crashed every 5 minutes but I had got as far as the point of no return in the main story and half the sidequests done. Then I got a disc version and upgraded for free to PS5 version on PSN. But it required the PS4 disc to activate the licence. I traded that in a while back. When I built my PC I installed it on there but had to start from scratch and played it all the way through to the early stages of the DLC and went on to something else. I am curious to see whether or not this actually works when I go to redeem it. I toyed with the idea of getting the switch 2 version for bants but I couldn't face starting it again. There is no PS5 pro patch, yet. Oscar Isaac to play me in the movie.

I've seen several implications towards different staff members ever since this became a hot topic so the idea that it's just one does not track to me and seems more like seeing what you want to see. Also feels a bit cowardly to do the whole "we all know who we're talking about here" implication but not actually dropping the name, in that case.

I wasn't reviewing the film, I was discussing my expectations. And how they have only decreased with every new piece of information about the DCU. Additionally, I find most superhero movies to be significantly worse than the reviews that universally fail to make them sound good. Every MCU movie but Eternals through Phase Four is considered positively for example, I would struggle to get to double digits despite there being thirty of them.

Somewhat related. The YouTube recommended Iron Man clips. Clicked through a few. It’s kind of shocking how much better they look than the newer stuff. CGI, grading, composition. Even stuff that looked loopy at the time, you didn’t realize how much standards would plummet. That last Captain America looked absolutely awful. The ads for Superman look like the Fight Night 3 fake gameplay shown by Kudo Tsunoda in 2005. The same camera movements but with a fish eye lens effect. 

It’s weird. Other modern movies look decent. That new Jurassic Park movie looks fine. Not the movie, but like visually. With superhero movies, maybe there’s the idea people will consume whatever. We’re a couple years away from reevaluating The Amazing Bulk.

I was talking about this in a call where someone went off on a tangent about how they really wish the women had hooves and a minigame with a close up camera angle for taking their horseshoes off, cleaning their hooves, and putting the horseshoe back on and ig now I understand why they stuck to 98% human depictions.
