And to ensure that this is a general comment rather than a specific one, I'm noting that I used to find it disconcerting that mods -- none of whom, as far as I know, are trained in international humanitarian law -- routinely deploy legalistic language in moderation notices. It's objectively true that things that occur in armed conflict may rise to the colloquial level of tragedy, but aren't "war crimes" in the legal sense. I got over this, after a ban on my own end, because I realized they were just referring to "war crimes" in the colloquial sense.

I believe there's a fundamental difference between stating "this argument exists, and these actors use it," versus "I openly advocate for this argument."

And it sometimes seems like the former is considered to be the same as the latter.

By the way, I think anyone (Hasan included) who thinks that Russia's invasion of Crimea and then Greater Ukraine is remotely justified is a flat-out idiot, but I don't see a problem with noting that it's one of the lawfare-based tactics that Moscow uses to drum up support. Any understanding of Moscow's recent aggression cannot be understood without appreciating its territorial ambitions, the fall of the Soviet Union, its designs on the Caucus region, and Dugin's Foundations of Geopolitics.

Wow, what a perfectly reasonable position to have. No wonder RE freaks the fuck out.

Contrapoints has always been willing to call out hypocrisies and inconsistencies in stances, so has always been a badthink tweet away from getting cancelled.

They did a whole thing about JKR and outright said "C'mon trans activists taking photos outside her fucking front door and being all 'omg why she bully us?' you know exactly what you're doing" which also caught them some flak.

Its pretty funny how people on era are threading the needle with their "Who even is this person that I should listen to?" which is suspiciously carefully gender neutral in their descriptors to avoid any misgendering bans, when the normal response to "Youtuber has a hot take" would be "Who the fuck is this guy anyway?" lol

Yes, JKR had literally nothing do with it despite what her detractors claim.

When a publically funded body loses a court case and then has to pay (publically funded) damages for what the court has determined is - at best - gross negligence and malpractice, there is - OFC - going to be a review of what the fuck happened and why.

Obviamente no.

Obviamente no.

Obviamente no.

https://www.resetera.com/threads/what-will-it-take-to-get-you-off-twitter.1239987/page-7#post-142532250

Basically goes into why Spanish speaking users like him use twitter, and chastises Era for virtue signaling with banning Twitter links and attacking people for still using it. Would be banned if this was in English though which is extra funny, see if he gets caught lol
Pasted it into Chat GPT to translate. Holy shit that's a based post lol

I'd copy the translation here but no doubt one of the Era mods will see it and the user would be be banned for Dismissing Concerns™ and trying to circumvent a ban by posting in their native language.

Reading about Iwata's triumphs in computer programming made me interested in the field and led me to study computer science in university. I believe that this too was true of many people my age.

I was devastated by Iwata's death that summer, and it has stuck with me throughout the past decade as well. I suspect that I've sometimes made mention of Iwata while arguing about Nintendo online. I rue such cases, because I believe it to be disrespectful to the life of a person who was so clearly beloved by the people around him. I did not lose Satoru Iwata, while those few people did.

I've often found myself very upset about the timing of Iwata's death: he passed away following an E3 presentation that disappointed many people, including my 15-year-old self, and I've always had a sense that he died feeling apologetic. More recently though I've realized that this feeling too is disrespectful. I instead believe that he had faith and resolve in the direction of the then-forthcoming Nintendo Switch and such initiatives as the partnership with Universal Studios.

I hope that my thoughts resonate with some people and help them to sort through their own feelings today.

Is it playing maxwell lord as a trump analogue, or is he more of a Dick Cheney type running a PMC that can serve US interests with plausible deniability (also a recurring theme in Gunns previous DC stuff)?

Its mostly piracy stuff because its mostly the big US telcos filing lawsuits to get things blocked - if someone whos a kiwifarms lolcow filed a high court injunction and kiwi farms didnt take down the thread about them (which they wouldn't), it would get added to the list.

If your pornhubs or whatever dont chuck in an age gate (which they kinda should have been doing anyway tbh, 'yes sir, im definitely over 18 button' is pretty fucking weak sauce in terms of preventing children accessing pretty fucking hardcore porn I think we can all agree, right?) they'll also just get added to the list, but its barely any fucking effort their end to not comply. I'm pretty sure they'd kinda prefer people have accounts anyway.

Its more bullshit that you can't just opt in from your ISP though, given you need to be of legal age to consent to having a legal contract in order to fucking have an ISP in the first place though.

Eric already responded to this but I want to add that the US is the only country that doesn't have a country level internet restriction scheme. The feds could do it (illegally), but they generally take down servers directly since most are hosted in the US or friendly countries anyway. They also rely on ISP's being willing to block things themselves.

Without looking I'm going to assume it's like the EU laws and doesn't apply to me because I'm a single person, our traffic is so low and no money is made from it. For example, I don't have to comply with the GDPR. Even with the far larger traffic I doubt Null has to. ResetERA.com has to and from what I've read from EU people doesn't really despite being owned by Swedes.

Somewhere in the bill there's likely a similar provision about who has to comply, almost all legislation is written like that. There are plenty of US laws (about other stuff) that don't apply to The Bire because it's really just me.

Ultimately, that's what turned me off Man of Steel and all the following movies. I mean, when he says incredulously against what was frankly Nuance Trolling from Lois, "But people were going to die?!" Like, of course he had to act to stop that.

Daphne wrote:Yeah, it's good to have a clear example of it in a blockbuster. Frustrating to watch the first time because I wanted to shout at Lois but hopefully it makes a few people realise the pattern of behaviour. Interesting to come from a journalist too. The film has quite a few subversive elements to it, unless I'm reading the intentions wrong.
But Clark is an unquestionably good person in Snyder's films. The one person he doesn't save is his father who's requesting not to be saved and it's when he was a child.

Clark and Lois have these same conversations in BvS:
Spoiler:  (click to show)

Plus we have the scene at Luthor's thing where he's following Bruce but has to stop because he sees a disaster on the other side of the world happening on TV. The whole fight wouldn't have happened if he caught Bruce spying on Luthor because he would have known about Luthor then. (Ignore that Diana stole it already. lol)

He's pursuing the Bat because he's a dangerous lunatic who's become a threat to everyone, Clark isn't one of the two characters who knows Bruce's once good intentions have driven him mad. (He still tries to talk to Bruce multiple times and fights him self-defensively.) Not to mention that he literally sacrifices his own life at the end of it. Dead
