The EU digital service tax plan was paused in 2021 and was mostly just recently used by von der Leyen as a threat if the US stops trade talks with the EU.
There isn't even a majority in the EU Council for a EU digital service tax, because EU countries like to keep their own digital service tax for them.

Era mods continually exceed my expectations for how incompetent they are.  This entire incident is entirely self-inflicted and they just cannot stop themselves from throwing more and more gasoline on the fire at every given opportunity. So hi, I've done a lot of community management and moderation in my life.  I made a bunch of mistakes at it as a teenager when I was young and inexperienced, but eventually it became a regularly part of my professional duties.  I work with small communities as well as some large industry organizations.  A reasonable portion of my doctoral dissertation dealt with it, and my forthcoming book (adapted from the dis) will as well.

I also do consulting and contracting on a client-by-client basis for various things.  Most of those things are about game writing and development, but I'd be happy to talk with the staff if they wanted.  No pressure or anything but I have the experience and it seems like maybe it would help.  Y'all can shoot me a DM if you're interested.

Last night, after a little over a week of being insulted in this thread, after a week of people making up conspiracy theories about us in this thread, a user actually sent in a ticket to argue their position about the DK thread.

After reviewing their argument, we decided that it had some merit and undid a number of the bans in the DK thread. Members who outright accused the writer of lying, or who acted inappropriately over a series of posts, will remain with the ban on their record. However, everyone else's bans have been rescinded.

Over the last 10 or so days, we have asked users, twice, to send in a ticket to appeal any ban decisions they disagree with and for 9 of those 10 days nobody has. Until last night that is. We have not yet replied to that user because we do want to write up a nice reply, but we are replying here because we do want it to be known: insulting us, brigading this thread, making up conspiracy theories about us, and the behavior shown across this thread for the last week is not the way to get results.

One guy sent in one ticket and did more than insulting and brigading and making up conspiracy theories about us did.

In the future, please send in a ticket. Don't insult us, don't make up conspiracy theories, don't brigade. Just send in a ticket and we'll listen.

Are there any plans to address the widespread concerns raised in the past day or so regarding the lack of transparency in the ticketing system, as well as the quality of responses users are receiving?

Numerous examples have been shared of negative experiences with the system, yet there appears to be little information on what concrete steps are being taken to improve it, which is particularly important if the volume of tickets is now expected to increase.

We are going to be talking about improving tickets, but it is partly a matter of what is possible on a technical standpoint and partly a matter of the sorts of tickets that users send in. Usually when someone is banned they double down and their ticket is actively worse than their post was. So if someone was console warring their ticket is even more blatant console warring. That or they are just looking to rules lawyer their way out of a ban. Stuff like this is a two way street. As many people would attest, we can be very responsive when receiving good tickets. The problem is those are not what we usually get. Usually we get insults, hostility, and people doubling or even tripling down on the behavior that got them banned in the first place.

Gonna be real, this is a report we got out of this thread:

moderation is full of cowards and shitheads

and, frankly, it is sadly not out of the ordinary.
