On the topic of self-serving delusions, I almost never trust anyone who casually mentions that they were raped or molested online.

Everyone I've even remotely known in real life who went through that shit, never bring it up! It's not something they want anyone but their therapist to think about when interacting with them. What I personally hate is how the terminally online have completely devalued the meaning of important words.

Nowadays, when someone on Era, Reddit or Twitter claim they were sexually assaulted, I always presume someone of the opposite sex accidentally touched their shoulder or bumped into them on the train.

It's like how anyone with a differing view is 'a nazi' or someone who doesn't hold the door open for a black person is automatically 'a racist'.

Important words that once had a powerful impact have almost completely lost their value as they are thrown about for every minor thing. Those who permanently live online have made things worse for those of us that live in the real world.

Embarrassing trend on this site where trans users will post about transphobic people/works of fiction and then people will just like, continue to have a conversation around those people instead of stopping to acknowledge what they're saying.

Anyone describing Burr as "progressive" needs to have a serious think about what progressiveness actually is.

It's been happening for years and keeps getting worse. Anything about trans people that can't be argued gets very little traction, but threads where people feel like they can plausibly deny transphobia go on for pages and pages. It's just exhausting now and doesn't feel worth the time anymore.

I wasn't exactly a Bill Burr fan already but this thread taught at least one more person about his transphobic comments because I had no idea, so thanks for that. Regarding this community leaning more to the right - respectfully, if this forum leans too far to the right for you then you live in a bubble, this forum is extremely left-leaning compared to most. The crux of the issue is that left-leaning communities are ALSO bad about understanding trans issues, sure they won't straight up say transphobic stuff like right-leaning communities would, but a lot of times the mark is missed. Especially the type who are just here for video games and not the political stuff.

Anyone who ignores and speaks past trans people aren't progressive and leftist. There is no leftism that doesn't support trans people, it's center left at best. I've been on this site since like the 2nd day it went live, I've been through some of the rockiest of times, it's been a fight and a half to just be acknowledged and for our issues to be seen. the predominant vibe I get most often is "liberal" and a lot of the time further right than that depending on the subject matter being discussed. this is definitely not any kinda leftist bastion and a lot of communities on here have been tryin to say that for a long ass time (and unsurprisingly haven't been listened to much when doing so)

In my short experience, Resetera is a weird place as a supposedly progressive forum. Yes, it's progressive in the sense that if you report any bigoted comment, the member will likely be banned.

But at the same time, there's some awful behaviour that keeps happening. The pattern I've noticed, especially in threads dealing with transphobia, is that a lot of commenters will express their excitement for a product by a transphobic creator, completely ignoring any posts pointing out the views/actions of the creator. It's a bit of a loophole cause they haven't said anything transphobic, and they can claim they simply didn't read the comments pointing out the problematic views of the creator.

But this isn't the only thing that happens. Often, certain members will awaken their alt accounts specifically to make a transphobic comment in a sensitive thread. They always get banned but this keeps happening.

Honestly, a space where you have to constantly justify and defend your existence as a person, and where you have to watch others openly celebrating the work of transphobes, isn't really a progressive space. Just because it isn't a right - wing hellhole doesn't mean it's somehow in a good place.

I don't have easy answers. But I do feel all of us have a lot of work to do as a community before we can call Resetera a progressive forum.
