This isn't true at all. For example, Joe Biden lead from 2017 on until after the Iowa caucuses. Mitt Romney basically did the same from 2009 on, with Newt always in the mix. Hillary led in both her runs and nearly won in 2008. John Kerry was always a leading candidate in 2004. Trump is the exception because nobody even polled on him until 2015, Obama was similar and was regularly a leading candidate when they did start polling with him.

To the article, its not saying anything different from sony (or at least speculated by) around AI and their next console. AI is obviously a large driver across technology so its reasonable to accept that they would mention it in some way or another. Im interested to know what they mean by this and how it will be used IE on an OS level to assist with navigation, shopping (probably more likely knowing MS) or on a technical level for development for upscaling...etc

It's definitely bad for capitalism and economies built on magical thinking that numbers would only ever go exponentially up.

More positive than not, I think. Infinite growth is unhealthy in all things, including population. It seems like the goal should be to find a sustainable equilibrium.

The downside of unlimited growth capitalism is that it creates a world where people don't want to have children anymore.

It's a negative that is entirely of humanity's own doing, and governments are much more interested in GDP going up or reducing deficits than trying to give people the resources they need to have kids.

The opposite of "unlimited growth" is ever increasing poverty. Where do these people believe resources come from? That they just spawn on a timer? The only "sustainable equilibrium" is continued growth. There's no "steady state" possible because time is a thing and humans aren't Gods.

Also, what do these types of people think life used to be like when people had vastly more children?

I'm pretty anti-kid - have never liked 'em or had a desire to have 'em - but the future is looking bleak with a growing wealth gap and unchecked capitalism and I can't help but wonder why anyone would want to put kids in that future.

I'd wager it won't get better, so I understand (and support) the decreasing desire to have children.

People are isolated and many lack the economic means to responsibly marry and procreate.

Better for the planet, but I see it as a negative indicator of later stages of capitalism where everyone is being squeezed for all they're worth and most can't afford to live beyond fleeting distractions from work.

Rising costs,worse living conditions, few future prospects, tensions in the dating world and the rise in bigotry/fascism are not exactly an environment that inspires a desire to build a family.

People are too busy to rear children. You can't both demand people have more kids and in the same breath make the cost of living unobtainable.

If the capitalist systems in place wants more people to have kids, the powers that be should first try to make a world that people view as worthwhile and accommodating to bring kids into.

Weird people think this has nothing to do with capitalism. I see a lot of vague gesturing at countries with good social services without taking into account a lot of these countries, like Japan, have massive wealth disparities and tons of economic problems. Of course no one should be forced to have kids, but there are tons of people who would like to but are too busy slaving away just to get by to even meet anyone, much less afford to bring a life into the world, social services or no.

Literally crazy to me that people look at the toxic shithole that is America these days and conclude that everyone is too rich and happy to be having kids. Most of the population is broke and miserable and living paycheck to paycheck.

It's not a good thing. Nobody can afford to have children in the western world, that's the problem. The developing world? Sure, have a ton of kids, and maybe you'll be ready to take over after everybody in the west is dead. That won't happen though because so many are desperately poor. Nothing will change there.

The folks in the west that are having kids have a lot of money, and they're not giving up their power. Money makes the world go around, and nothing here suggests that anything will change. The people having kids in the west are consolidating their money. They are the people who got the wealth transferred to them post pandemic. The lower and middle class in the west will either move up, or much more often than not, die off and fade from history.

Having a ton of kids will only take you so far. The people who run the world now belong to a death cult, and they're elated to watch the lower and middle class leave the earth by not reproducing. They don't care how many people have kids in the 3rd world, because they have no upward mobility, and will do nothing to disturb anything for the western elites.

How can these dudes be so disconnected from basic statistics about their own country?

Here's the thing though... humans aren't ants. (worldwide) population explosions usually lead to improvements in society, be it in science, medicine, etc, because more people means more brains, and more work put in to find solutions to problems.
Historically, less people actually leads to declines in civilization.

I'm not pretending to know, but did things start getting worse before birth rates dropped? As populations reach over crowding, or in hard economic times, these things come down. That's a fairly well known thing. As social support structures get stripped away people want less kids, etc etc. I kind of feel like you need to fix society *first* so people want to have kids vs making people feel obliged to have them for the good of society or what have you.
