I also live in a country full of Catholics and this form of condolences are common stuff.  

My family is not super religious but they will say stuff like this, and they mean it with all their soul. 

Is not even about respecting religion, but respecting how others grieve, specially since you guys demand others to the same for you.

I think the point Uncle is making is what you yourself said, it's not really religious. Era is taking it literally and seriously in order to take offense but, MEDIA LITERACY ALERT, missing the actual meaning of the words. Especially when they're taking offense on behalf of another person who might actually be comforted by it.

I am anti-religious but I can differentiate from the claims someone is making and when their use of religion is more a cultural touchstone than an actual metaphysical claim. Like if someone were to say "I will pray for you" to me the reason to take offense is because they probably won't actually do this rather than what is ostensibly good intent.

One exception I can think of, that you see sometimes, is someone saying something was God's will. That's not really bad because of the religious claim but because of the argument, it's like if someone told you their kid was in a car accident and you replied about the importance of allowing transportation by automobile or that they should think of all the successful trips.

Therein lies the problem and it's always the problem every single fucking time. Anyone who writes up a manifesto with completely nonsensical and deranged politics and ideas should not have a gun. Anyone with suicidal ideations or intense depression should not have a gun. There has to be normal fucking gun control laws in this country at the bare minimum.

This is so nightmarish and depressing. I'm trying to sit through the manifesto video that was posted online but its so hard because of how crazy this person is. It almost feels like some absurdist comedy skit; I cannot believe this is real. I don't even know if I should mention some of the things in the video because I don't know if its allowed but Jesus, how the hell did this person ever get their hands on not just a firearm but so many?

I love when they think background checks are or should be basically deep dives into everything about a person including everything they've ever written and said rather than just checking against public records.

These guys scream about how parents shouldn't be allowed to know about their own kids, let alone that social media verifies someone's age, but want the state to gather immense records on every person on the planet before allowing them to do something legal.

It really doesn't matter whether the shooter was trans or not because they would accuse them of being trans anyway. It's going to be nonsense from the usual suspects no matter what. Don't lose sight of the victims nor of the people who have the ability to prevent this kind of thing that will continue to abject from their duty.
