So I don't know if everyone was already aware and it was just me out of the loop. I know we had the recent controversy of the Youtube Shorts looking weird. But I was watching a movie recently on Amazon prime, it's a trash movie from the 1980s but I suddenly noticed a lot of weird artifacts. Example below.







Notice the dogs legs and the stick and swords disappearing. And its not just here there's lots of other artifacts all throughought the movie too They aren't just using upscaling they are doing some sort of AI interpolation, I don't know what to call it. I guess its the future everything will be rendered with AI no matter if it has a real source or not or how bad it looks.



edit: May not be Amazon entirely responsible, although still they are throwing up a trash third party AI transfer on their service which I pay for, when it seems there are better alternatives.

My relationship with my Trump-loving conservative grandma (who is 96) was forever soured when she called me out of the blue one day in 2020 during the height of the BLM protests "concerned" about me. I live 2 hours south of Portland, nowhere near the protests, but she completely bought into the Fox News propaganda that the city was being set on fire and there were riots everywhere. I couldn't convince her that 1. police brutality is common (she is 100% a blue lives matter type) and 2. that the protests were primarily contained within 2-3 city blocks downtown. It damaged our relationship basically forever. She believes everything the orange turd says.

The idea that Spielberg could do anything that would actually harm the brand is laughable. the thing I don't get about this is, the problem with this is that whatever it is, it's bad

AI tends to do a much better job at interpolating frames than whatever is going on here

so the problem isn't AI, the problem is that whatever Amazon is doing, it's bad, and if they were using AI to improve the films in a way that wasn't noticeable, that would be good

What would be the value of trying to predict frame data from a dataset of every image ever versus only the video source? And if it's only doing it from the video source how is it "AI"?
