Just a further reflection of the times.
The people who truly seek to defend democratic values, at this point, aren't the people who will be seeking to enlist within the machinery that is the United States military. I feel pretty confident about this assessment.
I've never been someone who has valorized or glorified the US military, despite having family members who were veterans and have served their country.
The people who are going to get themselves into material shape to defend democratic ideals are not going to be the people entering into the United States military at this junction. I say this as someone who has never more viscerally felt the need to physically defend democracy, yet who has historically found the US military deeply repulsive, and who is also in the process of transforming themselves physically (I've lost 100+ pounds in the last couple of years for a variety of reasons, one of them primarily being what potentially may be upon the horizon politically/socially/culturally in a way that cannot be easily ignored).
I'd never join the US military. But I'm increasingly feeling the opinion that I need to be one of the people ready to fight for the rights and freedoms of others. And that I need to improve myself to be capable of doing so, both physically and mentally

I have tried therapy. All six times was paying hundreds of dollars for a gaslighting quack. Opening up to these assholes only for them to not bother listening. Asking them to do thier jobs, even a tolerable level, is impossible. Better therapy would be to go back to being an alcoholic, or hope that the therapist is replaced with a knife wielding maniac because bleeding out beats saying a syllable.

So i tried using ChatGPT. And it felt dirty. But it listened and didnt cost money.

But it really exposed how awful and worthless most therapists are. How can you be worried about AI taking your job when it actually does it as opposed to dicking around. "A better therapist" is a ChatGPT update, and these clowns havent even considered listening as an option.

I know what you're saying here. But who is to say that "50 states and the 13 colonies" will be a thing that people give any fuck about after time elapsed? Am of the opinion that more and more people will see that iconography less as the "bastion of the free world" and more as both "Nazi Germany 0.5 AND 2.0". So....

I say this as someone who was involved in We the People in their High School years and who was on the first team, the one who was tasked with understanding and defending the ideological/philosophical foundations and origins of the United States by the founding fathers.

EDIT: And my High School was the one to typically make the national competition in "We the People" (aka making it through the state competition), yet the year I participated we got completely snubbed in going to Washington D.C. for our state's behalf. Our school was first in 3 of 6 team competitions that year, mine included, yet somehow another school was propped up for some reason. A school who only had one of their teams win, yet who was the most "wealthy, upper class" school within the state. Our teachers at the time, along with us students who could think a bit more critically all thought that the "upper class" school finally "deserved one", regardless as to whether or not they earned it. (They didn't, as only one of their teams was ranked first compared to our three winning teams).

That was essentially the point that the illusion was shattered for me. It was honestly incredibly fitting. So my Civics/History teachers probably secretly loved us being obviously snubbed for complete bullshit (see: wealth) reasons.

Two thoughts on this guy: 

1. It's obvious that he only wants the therapist to give him positive affirmation that everything is everyone else's fault and he is 100% correct, all the time.

Are you seriously implying Valve opening up Deadlock to the public around Concord's release (though I'm pretty sure that timeline doesn't work out) was part of some coordinated/deliberate effort to kill the game because it included lgbt characters, despite that Deadlock itself has lgbt characters? No, I'm saying that they fully opened up Deadlock to the public (it no longer needing the invites) on Concord's release day. Kill the seemingly-never-had-a-chance competition, especially since they were in a weakened state. The head of Valve is one of the wealthiest people in the world. You don't get to a position like that without being cunning, calculating, ruthless, shrewd and outright spiteful. That's what I'm saying about that point, very specifically.

 

I was fully intending to no longer reply to anything in this thread/further engage in any conversation around this, as I believe that I've mostly fully said my piece and there is nothing more to gain by further elaboration. I'm not going to change most of the hearts and minds who read what I have to say/think about this or other games and the social-political-cultural environment we now find ourselves globally. Plus, I really don't intend to piss people off with my sincerely, truly, viscerally held feelings on these things. And boy, would I and I'm sure I have already.

But, I just read an Adam Gopnik article in The New Yorker and it actually somewhat touches on the points that I've been attempting to make surrounding the cultural response to Concord. At least in a more "aesthetics reflecting values" kind of sense.

So I've been planning to visit Orlando for about a month to celebrate my best friend's birthday (I live in Miami). About 2 weeks ago I got my annual check-up done by a new PCP, and I pointed out to them that I have a minor irritation in my throat. She said that it's likely a lingering effect of the stomach virus I suffered from about a week prior and that drinking plenty of water and taking in a daily dose of vitamin C will manage it.

Well, I did just that but the issue never disappeared. Fast-forward to this past Friday and I wake up feeling "weird". Seems that my body is producing a minor feverish response to having an irritated throat all this time, but I still felt fine enough to go to work. I took the time to get some DayQuil/NyQuil at the nearby Walgreens during my lunch break, hoping that it can contain my symptoms.

If it were up to just me, I think I would've actually canceled the trip since I was still feeling off after work, but there was a snag. My aunt, who wanted to visit my mom during the week to support her after going through a surgery Tuesday, ironically got herself hospitalized because she fell off the bus due to it not lowering itself to the ground and ending up fracturing her knee. Me going to Orlando with her in tow would allow her to get picked up by my cousin and her bf, since they flat out said they would not make the trip all the way to Miami for that purpose.

So I bit the bullet and drove to Orlando anyways. The drive over was fine, even if the traffic was terrible. I met up with my friend, relayed my aunt to my cousin, and hung out with my best friend for the rest of the night. I still felt off but it was still manageable.

Saturday though everything took a turn for the worse. I was getting more chills, my appetite was nearly completely gone, and it felt like the DayQuil/NyQuil were having no effect anymore. I got into a quick telehealth call and managed to get a prescription going for me, but it was a little too late. By that afternoon I was completely bedridden, feverish and barely able to move. At this point my fun weekend trip to celebrate my friend's birthday was effectively over.

And that's when it hit me: How am I going to get home? I was obviously in no condition to drive for over 250 miles down the highways in my current state.

Fortunately an answer provided itself to me Sunday morning. Somehow I came around the mend just enough to feel "normal" when I woke up. I decided it was either now or never so I quickly packed up my things (accidentally leaving behind something but my friend will mail that to me later) and hit the road while I still felt like I was able to.

The drive back was quite possibly the most dangerous thing I've ever done. Sure, I felt OK enough to start driving, but after going about 30 miles down it became apparent to me that I was significantly more exhausted than I thought I was. I kept conking out (for like 4-5 seconds at a time) during the drive despite having the music turned up to full blast. The only reason this drive was even possible is due to the driver assist feature that is enabled when you activate cruise control. It prevented me from veering off the road or rear-ending people. This would not have been possible with my old car that died a few months ago, so I can pretty confidently say this new car saved my life.

Anyways, I miraculously made it home without incident, and now I'm in the care of my parents (well, mostly my dad since my mom is still recovering from her surgery). My fever went up to 103F soon after I arrived, so despite the danger I think I made the right call to drive down here, because there is no way my friend would be able to adequately take care of me.

To put a bow on this whole story, I have a work deadline coming up, but there is obviously no way I can go to work in my current condition. I don't currently have a 103F fever but it can always pop up again. It really sucks but I just have to hope I fully recover fast enough to put the finishing touches on the thing I'm working on.
