Nah, don’t pretend you didn’t know what I meant about “using AI as therapy”, Uncle. Your contrarian wired brain needs limits.

 tf is this nepenthe-ass threat
I'm not pretending anything, most of therapy is just talking to someone and feeling like they're listening even if they don't suggest any particular course of action
talking to inanimate objects can be therapeutic, and so can talking to chatbots
I have no idea what other interpretations you're talking about

Saying that you were a contrarian just for contrarian sake was giving you the benefit of doubt over this:
Uncle doesn’t believe in therapy and thinks that talking to an inanimate object is good for your mental health.

I believe therapeutic experiences are broader than whatever your narrow definition is, and whatever you consider to have helped you is valid

Yes, talking with ChatGPT is totally helping this guy:
Quatermuncher wrote:I have tried therapy. All six times was paying hundreds of dollars for a gaslighting quack. Opening up to these assholes only for them to not bother listening. I just said whatever helps you is valid
if it's not helping you, maybe you should stop
that doesn't suddenly mean it's universally unhelpful to everyone
can someone explain why I can't post a single thing on this site without this guy jumping all over me? I can go days without posting and the instant I'm back and I say "hey I just ate pizza" and he's like "um ackchewally to be fair"

https://www.resetera.com/threads/ai-is-no-contest-the-best-therapy-ive-ever-had.1291179/page-3#post-144851247 This isn't a reason not to use AI as therapy, if it was, then Messofanego and heathen earth alone would disprove the use of therapists as therapy. The reason AI should not be used for therapy is because they're deliberate black boxes. (And since they're trying to replicate humans, they're terrible at using sources correctly.)
Totally not gaslighting.

To be fair, you jumped in with a "nah" response to him first. Not that that's bad, but you did initiate the disagreement.
But anyway, the therapist industry is IMO by and large worthless (or in the case of gender dysphoria affirmation, extremely harmful), but I also think there are some good apples amongst them. But yeah, I don't recommend therapy unless you're suicidal or need pro-family marriage counseling or something. The modern "everyone should have a therapist" is something I disagree with. Seems like a marketing ploy to inflate their industry, tbh, and I'm only making that judgment based on what I see as the merits (or lack thereof) of casual therapy.
Try to deal with extremely depressed family members that refuse to seek therapy and never improve.
