That's not even getting into who is encouraging what...Trump and Elon are for sure not blameless, but anywhere on the internet (see: Era, Twitter, Bluesky), the rhetorical two-step of "it's ok to kill nazis" followed by "<x> is a nazi and you are one too if you disagree" is impossible to miss.

He was actively pushing people into using their legitmate political power to go and vote, and from that to win elections, and from there to enact the change they want to see within the democratic framework.

He also - pretty fucking clearly - believed in both free speech and the marketplace of ideas.
Universities aren't hotbeds of conservatism. He wasn't monologuing rhetoric without pushback in cosy spaces favourable to him - his whole shtick was 'prove me wrong', and he was doing it in places where a lot of people fucking hated him and what he stood for, and trying to persuade people to his cause.

The 'leftist' commenters cheering his killing on aren't people who want a fucking debate.
They aren't people going into hostile areas to try and persuade people of why their pet cause(s) matter.
These are the people demanding people be silenced for their opinions, who exclude anyone outside of their in group, and who actively dissuade people from using legitimate political means to enact change.

Literally everyone who is legitmately part of the political system from whatever side are instantly denouncing political violence, because political violence is wholly illegitimate in any democracy; if you can't fucking persuade someone you're right on something, the solution isnt to then threaten them into acquiescence.

tbh I wasn’t aware of him or his following but the reaction is telling me not to be dismissive of all this. It’s not silly to a great many people. And I get the pull of saying “well those people are stupid and don’t matter”. But constantly underestimating a huge lot of people has caused a stir these past couple years. People are showing videos of the guys behind Kirk signaling. Crazy conspiracy theory but someone was planted in the crowd to ask the question about trans mass shootings. The shooter was then signaled and took the shot. The gun was then found and conveniently had trans messages on the bullets. Trump then viciously goes after all the trans people out there.

i've seen dissections of the scene just before the shot, yeah, people signaling, kirk even closing his eyes in "anticipation" of a shot. there's a belief they tried to stage an "attempted" killing ala Trump, but it failed spectacularly. Some of it seems plausible! I am not tinfoil hatting, but i can get down with these fucks being absolutely dumb and trying to do shit like this to further an agenda.
