Nexstar pulled Kimmel from it's ABC stations. Disney fired Kimmel because the show would no longer be seen by a huge number of ABC viewers. It would be far more effective to cancel your cable TV subscription where the vast majority of local stations are owned by conservative owners Nexstar and Sinclair, than to cancel Disney+.

But the cable company isn't those affiliates. In fact, it's federal law that forces the cable companies to carry those stations and they don't get full carriage payments IIRC.

Your problem in this whole thing is you can't threaten the affiliates because you aren't one of their customers.

The problem I keep seeing is how people try to apply the logic of American capitalism to China and the way they are acting. At one point they were much much more beholden to such things because they didn't effectively have as much leverage as they needed. But now they aren't a soft power. I used to apply the same kind of thought process of like "oh that doesn't sound profitable, that doesn't make sense, they'll collapse" or something like that. I think it's kind of a failure of understanding like others have pointed out that effectively they're just central planning/doing as a state what a lot of companies like Amazon etc do. If they decide they want to build all the housing, all the cars etc, and have internal resources to make it happen, even most likely at the expense of companies in their systems etc. They can in fact do so.

They in fact do not because this is impossible. Amazon doesn't do central planning, it does distribution. These dudes are always going on about owning the means of production (aka capital) but have never bothered to figure out what that even is.

The more China drifts back to central planning, as Xi desires, the worse off the country will be. China isn't the powerful one in the relationship with capitalism, we aren't trapped in here with them, they're trapped in here with us.

This is honestly madness as American. I don't know at what point we become a dictatorship or if that point is long passed. It's like trying to watch your kids or pets grow when you are with them every day. You don't notice them grow daily, but after a number of months or years, you wonder how they grew so much, and you barely noticed it. It's the same with Trump. I can't believe how FAST everything is happening. Even if you realize it's over a decade since Trump got elected, I would have never thought when Obama was president and things were relatively calm, that America would soon become a dictatorship or very close to one. I mean....Obama intervened in Libya without congress for longer than the 60-day War Powers resolution limit.  He assassinated an American citizen without judicial process because he was related to a terrorist, and killed a few other Americans with drone strikes, and never faced accountability for it.  He oversaw the NSA bulk data collection program on citizens and tried to expand DACA and DAPA with executive actions to take control of deportation deferrals....all that sounds kinda dictatorial, but yeah, not as exciting as a talk show host getting fired.

Personal motor vehicles aren't sustainable in the long term, but in the short term getting ICE vehicles off the road literally saves lives from air pollution, and it secures some more energy sovereignty.

I don't think it will destroy their economy or anything though, I have seen enough China collapse thumbnails on YouTube and "but at what cost?" NYT articles to see that the opposite is true. Especially now that worldwide institutions are finally admitting that a global green transition is only possible by utilizing China as the manufacturing hub of the world.

In China you can't leave your region without state permission. Booshka thinks this is already too much personal sovereignty and simply declares by fiat that it's not "sustainable in the long term" and probably nobody there objects even though this isn't based on anything. Neither "sustainable" or "long term" will be defined, but we know it's true from these two variables alone.

I also find it hilarious that supposed Marxists are now arguing for autarkic states rather than an "international" of socialist societies. Ironic that they're all brave anti-fascists while adopting fascism's central economic premise.

But almost immediately after FCC chair Brendan Carr’s appearance on Benny Johnson’s podcast, the storm of shit “became a bigger swirl.”

Within hours, multiple ABC station owners held calls with senior Disney leadership expressing their concern with the comments, a second source tells THR.

Inside of ABC, “multiple conversations” with Kimmel were had at the “executive level,” the first person says, though the talks had not yet reached Bob Iger or TV head Dana Walden. The execs wanted to know: How was Kimmel going to address the situation on Wednesday night’s show?

The answer was not satisfactory to management, sources say. Disney wanted Kimmel to address the situation in a way that “would take down the temperature,” but what he had planned was “going to fan the flames with the MAGA fan base,” the source says.

A source at Jimmy Kimmel Live! counters to THR that Kimmel’s planned on-air address was not “making it worse,” but that he simply “wasn’t kowtowing” to the outrage.

Kimmel was “defending what he said [as] being grossly mischaracterized by a certain group of people,” the show source says.

THR reported on Wednesday that Kimmel did not plan to apologize for his comments, but did plan to address the situation on-air.

Talks between Kimmel and Disney/ABC hit enough of a stalemate that executives there decided Wednesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! had run out of time to be salvaged. By this point, 66 of the roughly 200 affiliate stations had said they would not carry the episode — that’s when ABC announced it was suspending the program — a Bob Iger and Dana Walden joint decision that was a “last resort,” the first person says. Walden delivered the news to Kimmel but did not ask him to apologize, says the source, who described Wednesday as “a very heavy, very hard day” inside the walls of Disney and ABC.

Disney is still trying to find a path back to Jimmy Kimmel Live!, according to the source. At the top, executives are hopeful, but note that the future is up to Kimmel’s willingness to participate in the cooling-off process.

Despite claiming to be motivated by a desire to eradicate child sexual abuse, the organization’s efforts had dedicated themselves to crusades against child pornography bans, letter-writing campaigns to state representatives demanding child-like sex dolls be kept legal, and funding research into “fantasy sexual outlets” for pedophiles. Prostasia has also condemned anti-pedophile sentiment as harmful “Nazi-like” rhetoric and called for its mass censorship across social media.

A recent announcement published in Prostasia’s September Newsletter explains that the charity has terminated operations, with the charity’s blog and social media accounts being permanently archived.

“When Prostasia was founded in 2018, there was a spirit of greater openness to evidence-based discussions of CSA and its connection with pedophilia and to non-carceral approaches to preventing sexual violence,” reads the statement. “But in the years that followed, until 2021 when Prostasia was at its most active, the climate shifted.
