I don't necessarily wanna give her the benefit of the doubt that this is what she meant BUT, having youth leagues in particular be divided into weight classes or something rather than having gender be a factor at all sounds like a pretty reasonable approach.

Ending gender based dichotomies in youth sports is the fairest way to go about it. More skill and experience based ranking, not just throwing kids all together based on perceived gender and their ages and just letting them get after it. Youth sports have dramatic body dimorphism and experience deltas.

I've posted this a few times on ERA, while I don't have anything against Dungeons and Dragons itself (though I am fed up of Forgotten Realms being treated as the end all be all of the franchise in all media now and have a fair few criticisms), I'm honestly so damn fed up of it's influence in fantasy, especially high fantasy where even fantasy works I like and love, I just feel I can ever fully get away from the damn thing (especially when it comes to creature design).

This is especially true for video games. Even with stuff I like such as Dragon Age, it always just feels like I'm just playing someone's glorified D&D fan fiction (and yes I'm including the Witcher games (Note games not books) with that).

Again I'm not against D&D and I'm not telling anyone not to love these games or D&D or are bad for liking them or that it's bad these games exist and works of fiction exist both the ones heavily and more subtly inspired; I love Dragon Age, I love Yu-Gi-Oh, I love Warhammer, I love seeing women adoring their OC and living out their fantasies and dream as a Buff cool Orc woman or a Caring Stoic Dark Elf lady. I would not want to get rid of any of it, I just want high fantasy that isn't D&D based. I want that clear.

As such, what are the best High Fantasy RPGs that ARE NOT heavily based on D&D and it's rules.

For example, things that I'm looking for:
Preferably the setting not to be generic fantasy (aka Western Europe with some other cultures mixed in) or not fully (and at least tries to be unique). Seriously, why is tropical considered so damn taboo for high fantasy games (looking right at you Bethesda who will retcon their entire setting to erase anything tropical).
NO Alignment system, aka no justifications to make sentient species all "evil"; aka making it morally acceptable to murder, take all their stuff and steal their land for "good" people (especially certain works that also pull the "Oh no these Goblins weren't sentient... Despite having language, feelings, technology, consciousness, culture, beliefs etc etc, their only Semi-sentient/demi-human!!!! Genocide away; Oh hi Bethesda!)
Speaking of, no falling back on the "Barbarian" trope that's based on ancient beliefs to justify conquering, vilifying and "uplifting" other cultures used to justify atrocities and colonialism.
Also avoid "Aliens uplifted non-white cultures"
No trying to justify not having diversity and people of colour like "We don't need them we have Elves (who must be white because... THEY MUST BE WHITE!)" or "No Asian characters because Snake people ate them!" (again looking right at you Bethesda... Can you tell I have major issues with Elder Scrolls worldbuilding yet?). Same with LGBTQ+ characters, no hiding of them but also actually be willing to discuss Homophobia and LGBTQ+ related issues.
Preferably no character creation or canon white male straight lead. Preferably a canon Women lead (and even more so a lesbian or wlw at that with a canon romance) or group that get represented much as player characters in games.
No Medieval stasis
Allows for weapons barred from D&D (and therefore most high fantasy fiction because their just following D&D) like Fire Lances, Hand Cannons, Early Guns etc.
No generic levelling system (Aka you gained enough exp and are now level 2, here is a skill point!) or class system; something more dynamic and actually account more your actions like skills taught by teachers/masters/apprenticeship, you naturally improve in say archery from actually performing archery etc.
Related, don't have "intelligence" and "Wisdom" be separate stats. Wisdom is an aspect of intelligence, being knowledgeable without wisdom is pointless because you can't use that knowledge. Sorry I've never liked that aspect of D&D.
Also avoid Charisma being the "skip" choice, I'm sorry no, being "charismatic" shouldn't let you get out of every situation or charm everyone, basically act like a "get out of free card". Honestly, just no D&D like stats, make players work and have to think about choices.
Preferably more dynamic system when it comes to stuff like armour rather then the "Iron < Steel" stuff, why not have varieties of steel that have different perks? Or allow personalization so you don't have everyone wearing the same thing at higher levels because one or two sets are the objective best.
Don't gamify romance, don't make sex scene a reward (it annoys me when romances in games are considered inherently bad because it doesn't end in sex) and don't make romance just a case of bribery and just saying the right things to a character (then contradicting yourself to other characters). Show the hardship of romance along with the good, avoid making it just a power fantasy.
NO DICE MECHANICS!!!!
No slow Turn-based menu heavy D&D inspired combat system (I'm fine with turn-based but REALLY don't like the very slow BG3 type combat).
No Chosen one or prophecy plots (or with the latter, actually bothering to explain it).
No generic Tolkien/D&D takes on species. No standard elves (I say this as someone who think Galadriel is one of the best fictional characters ever), No Dwarves are all Scottish for no actual reason (why is that? The Dwarves in the Hobbit/LOTR are from/descended from the Scandinavian part of Middle Earth and based on Norse and Germanic takes of on Dwarves, why would they be ALWAYS Scottish?), No Orcs are all evil, no Goblins are jokes and okay to murder in mass (seriously I'm so sick of this damn trope).
No Cthulhu/Mind Flyers inspired creatures. Same with Tieflings.
No "Magic vs Science" (aka Magic being used as an expy of Religion) nonsense, Science is not a belief, it would not be in counter to magic, science adapts when presented with new truths and information, Magic is just science we don't understand and would strive to understand magic (I especially don't like how most fiction nearly always sides with pro-magic and implies scientists are close-minded or bad).
Actually be creative in the species and creature design. Why can't Dwarves be insectoid, why do Elves HAVE to be just humans with pointy ears, why do Dragons HAVE to look the exact same in everything nowadays? Why does fantasy have to be so standardized? The myths and folklore wasn't, Dragons can vary massively, why not get creative and make your own takes or use the many underused fey and creatures from folklore and myth? (oddly this is something I think D&D is better in many regards then some the works inspired from it).
I feel like I've just given Resetera an impossible task, be curious to see what people recommend.
