I was talking to my wife about this Jimmy Kimmel thing and accidentally reminded myself that late night talk show hosts are just the most massive drama queens imaginable. Remember when Conan got booted from being Leno's successor? People online were acting like Leno committed a genocide against Conan O'Brian. This kinda shit goes back to Johnny Carson, right? 

With the way people are acting online, you'd be forgiven for thinking that a 22-year-old ideologically motivated sniper assassinated Jimmy Kimmel at 200 yards during a public appearance...now it makes more sense sense.

Anyway I think the more apt comparison for Kimmel is actually Bill Maher, who also once faced network consequences for saying indelicate things. And look at us, 20 years later. America still alive and kicking, free speech still speechin', Bill Maher bigger than ever. Things are actually lookin' up for ol' Jimmy K!

I've actually been deciding whether or not to post a thread about discussing my 20-25 favourite Pokémon like I did with Digimon, mostly because I'm worried it will become an arguing match.

A thread asking the US citizens whether they realize that the only way the current situation is resolved is a civil war. Diplomacy won't be enough because the other side aren't interested in talking or compromising. Only through violence and killing/prosecuting those on the fascist side ready to kill for their beliefs will this be turned around.

The only alternative is to have those republicans (politicians) who have a conscience change sides but they are way too afraid of their own electorate/the prospect of losing their position to ever do that. It's too late. They should have done that when they had the chance to impeach him.

Edit: Of course a third possibility is some of the states seceeding peacefully but I can't imagine Trump letting them go without a fight and the UST (United States of Trump) would still be a hellhole for those caught behind their borders. Quite a lot of people would probably flee though. And domestic terrorism would skyrocket from locals on either side dissatisfied with their state being opposed to their own beliefs.

Again, to be clear, this is not saying the plan is to label all trans people as terrorists. This would be new terminology for suspects of a crime. There is serious reason to be concerned about this happening and the likelihood of abuse but we shouldn't fall into misleading headlines and misinformation. I think it's very important for people to be informed and sober about these concerns but not confused.

The distinction is important, because if you get the details wrong when talking about this to people on the fence, they will think you're making things up. Trump is dancing the line of outright facism, and occasionally stepping over it. I agree that the end goal appears obvious, and it's terrifying, but that's all the more reason to be mindful of bringing in more allies who are not currently invested.

As I said in the other thread, the trans community is a vulnerable one, and has a lot of very vulnerable people. Nobody is under the illusion of what a dire time we are in for trans people, and what direction things are going in, but misinformation and exaggeration only serves to hurt trans people.

Creating an environment of hopelessness by saying all trans people are about to go on a terror watch list, or are going to be sent to the camps, will only cause needless distress and hurt. I'm almost a year sober from a 20 drink a day alcohol problem. If the immediate sense of hopelessness got to me before I found out it wasnt true and I ended up drinking to numb the imminent catastrophe, exaggeration and lies would directly contributed to destroying all the progress I have made. And that's a milder consequence, nobody wants to be needlessly triggering suicidal ideation with these exaggerations.

Setting up what's effectively a new hate crime category to protect transphobes is a concerning enough news story as it is, we don't need to be piling up unnecessary strain on top of it.

A who's-who of the chicken-littlest trans posters of era now stressing the importance of accurate language and crystal clarity, lest a poor, genocided anxious trans be driven to do something rash. Also 20 drinks a day holy fuck.

It's good a game but the queer elements being handled well are thanks to consultants. Swery said a really stupid thing in an interview about the game. Basically the mom is valid in being a transphobe.

SWERY was just a smol bean, doddering around the studio while (activist???) consultants made a whole game and put his name on it, for some reason. Btw, here's the SWERY quote in reference:

SWERY: We worked with transgender individuals, other minorities, psychology professors, and students on this title. Also, as a Buddhist priest myself, I thought deeply about the contents of this title and approached the creation with the utmost care and sensitivity. There are many shocking scenes in this game. However, I made sure that it always came back to this game's central message that "this title was made with the belief that no one is wrong for what they are." This message is true for the character of J.J.'s mother as well. She is also not wrong for being who she is.

Obviously, any correct-thinking individual knows that a true ally would unhesitatingly state that the any transphobic parent should be burning in hell with Charlie Kirk.
