all the information you'd ever want to know about games tends to come from other players, real people, steam reviews, steam forums, reddit

journos have this shitty relationship with devs where there is kind of an incentive/schmoozing thing going on so you can't really trust them, and if they DON'T have a backroom deal then they're just like any random schmuck online, why should I trust their opinion more

the only thing game journalism ever had to sell was in the 90s when you couldn't afford every game but they could, and they reviewed them in magazines, now you can find 5000 reviews for even the shittiest no-name games so what's the point

I don't fucking care if a random journalist says "the game is fun to play," the objective information about it is what tells me if it will be to my tastes

what genre is it, what platform is it on, what modes does it have, about how long does it take to play through, does it have predatory monetization, does it have glitches or bugs, what graphics options does it support, how many character classes/choices does it have, what kind of customization or building does it offer, does it have a lot of skill trees, does it offer a lot of options in combat, does more content unlock after you finish it, does it have a lot of backtracking

all objective things which I trust more to align with my tastes than "hurr durr it's fun"

and you can find out all of this easily in steam reviews or on forums
