Yes, if a wrestler manages to get you into an ideal hold for them, it's likely over. What I think is being overlooked though is that this is the exact scenario that boxers train against. Their fighting style allows them to maintain a much more defensive stance while being agile, meanwhile grapplers have to open themselves up to get you in a hold.

The second your vitals are exposed a good boxer is going to punish you for getting too close.

Anecdotally, I have trans friends even here in California that have taken seriously to gun ownership over the past two years as they feel that regardless of who is in power, their existence is being questioned and pushed against.
