Sort of feels like Microsoft is just sort of chucking these games onto Game Pass and hoping for the best. Can't recall seeing much marketing for this one outside of a few trailers during their presentations (and even then the last one I recall was the "will release when it's ready" announcement).

Not sure how much can really be attributed to that vs. the overall state of the industry though. Things seem somewhat dire for anything but the very top % of games.

 

We just had lot of hyper successful games this year, when people complain about the state of the industry is usually because layoffs even with considerable profits.

Outer Worlds 2 lack of sales is probably because people ended disliking current era Obsidian RPGs and many people were vocal about being disappointed of Other Worlds after the initial honeymoon phase. Avowed suffered the same.

Modern day Obsidian is one of the strangest studios. Avowed has great combat/exploration/level design but every single narrative (story/characters/dialogue) and role playing element is absolute shitttttttttttt. 13k is amazing considering the low low low quality of their nu-RPGs.

Pentiment and Deadfire were their last good games. I hope Josh Sawyer can turn it around with whatever he directs next.

I really enjoyed outer worlds overall but I didn't even know the sequel was out

it was less...funny and fallouty than I would've liked, they make some attempts near the start but by the end it's really quite desperate and grim, like, just a very sickly world

but I still found it fun and enjoyed some of the choices you get to make in how to resolve situations

I'm just not really in a place to play a sequel to it right now though

Pentiment and Deadfire were their last good games. I hope Josh Sawyer can turn it around with whatever he directs next.

i was just talking to my partner about this happening before with other games/media. it's crazy how these people will frame by frame analyze a trailer to look out for anything resembling a 🤏🏻 gesture and then go berserk and start hate campaigns.

The only vinyl I ever owned was both collectors edition TLOU vinyls. Never listened to them. Shrinkwrapped. Couldn't find a buyer but the local used record store bought them for $50 from me and I used that to eat last year during unemployment.



But I guess things really are that simplistic to many people.

My wife is in social work (Nor Cal) and a lot of people in need would rather go hungry than take groceries from a food bank. There's a lot of shame attributed to food banks because it's very public and you may run into someone you know volunteering there. SNAP is much more discreet. Feel bad for people having to go to food banks where groceries may or may not be in stock. Not being able to choose what you want and just get what you get. It's inhumane in some aspects.
