No, it's a patent for the very concept of summoning a character in a video game! I read it online once, so it must be true. I am very smart.

These are the actual graphs THEY don't want you to know about:

[Image: 960px-U.S.-Tax-Revenues-As-GDP-Percentag...-05%29.JPG]
edit: Wikipedia lied about the size of this second image, the 640px link goes a 960px file lmao

Your explanation for a system needs to explain why different tax systems produce a historical tax share that's so remarkably stable over time. (The latter one going back for the EU looks just like the US one in terms of relative stability. If you add debt the US line will move up to match the EU one, we simply don't pay the taxes for things we buy with the state.) Nobody cares to do this, even the US government always (for example, both W. Bush and Obama did this, estimating it would jump to 25% as a share) forecasts tax changes as breaking dramatically from the pattern without explanation for why it will. You'd think somebody at the CBO and OMB might care that every estimate they'd ever made overestimates revenue and underestimates outlays. In 1967, the government estimated that all of Medicare would cost $12 billion in 1990. The actual figure was $98 billion. OMB has never accurately predicted the GDP change for a year. This has had no effect on how the government makes future estimates.

Yet everyone believes they can just "simply" alter the system to produce the results they expect. Both expert and "expert" alike. Historical trends predate me so they're irrelevant and I can simply assert that they support what I want to do even if there's no examples of what I want being done in human history. We just need to tax the rich at 70+% again. Like we did from 1940-1980, see history supports me so you can't question what I want. But wait, what's that tax revenue as a % graph look like for back then... (and what were the lower brackets paying? Shut up you.)

It's why I prefer when they just start talking about wanting to kill people. Billions in the case of Nepenthe, but we can't raise Soapbox's property taxes a few mills to pay for what he and she wants done?

"Discrimination is wrong" yet wants to discriminate against someone who doesn't agree with them. You can think an idea is stupid but that doesn't mean you get to decide if that person is worthy of having a job or not.

Quote:It's "controversial" because people read that 6 word description in the thread title and assumed it was literally just that, instead of actually reading the fucking patent. So we keep spreading objective misinformation.

I suspect they're "looking into it" because the government is run by terminally online weirdos part of a movement born from a terminally online gaming weirdo fiasco, and are trying to court gamers with performative nonsense.
Quote:Very cute to read these posts as , especially considering you criticize people for "not reading" while skipping the part that says that the initial granting of the patent was widely criticized by actual IP lawyers
Quote:Also Trump has nominated a lot of idiots but in this case the only thing I can find is the Director is well respected in the IP community. So most likely there is some issues behind the patent for him to personally get involved.
Doskoi Panda wrote:You mean like Gene Park (aka not actually an IP lawyer) and Florian Mueller (whose own take has been criticized by other lawyers for being an inaccurate summation of the actual scope and contents of the patent)?

Right, right. I def haven't read anything about this. But I'm sure you have! I'm sure you know exactly who made what claims, and why. And that's why you're so convinced as to their veracity. Just like everyone else here. 🙄
Quote:It wasn't though. Gamers tossed the barebones descriptions at random lawyers on Twitter and nabbed a few "I haven't read the patent, but it sounds pretty bad" quotes shortened down to the back half.
Doskoi Panda wrote:
Quote:Were.the IP lawyers that criticized it emotionally invested too?
Care to be more specific? Are you referring to Florian Mueller (whose own takes have been criticized by other laywyers), or perhaps Gene Park (who isn't an IP lawyer)? Because those are the two primary sources behind the general public's understanding re: the scope and contents of these patents.
Quote:How about this lawyers opinion?
Quote:I'll bring up Haley MacLean's (who is a working video game IP lawyer) video from when this was approved. I'm not a lawyer, but since she is I'd defer to her judgement and she succinctly shows why this was bad.
Quote:The IGN article names Florian Mueller, Kirk Sigmon, Don McGowan and the japanese patent office.
Strange, Doskoi Panda stopped replying to the thread after being all over it and every reply. hmm

Also, another Nazi strike for Gene Park. Always knew he was sus.

Is this going to be the generation where Nintendo fanboys are going to go full mask off and become full on  corporate apologists?

Two good console generations in a row make selling Nintendo as the underdog a laughable endeavor.

And the work we did was crucial too. I just don't understand at all how they think outsourcing and Ai can take over.

We are extremely lucky that we got a nice severance and I (hopefully) have time to find another job but it looks like my extremely specific specialty (T&S, mis/dis) is like...Just being dropped or outsourced now. I'm flabbergasted.

Kind of problematic to suggest foreigners can't be jannies for a formerly Chinese social media platform. ERAsure of the marginalized!

I think Mamdani is going to dissapoint today. He played the "Hahaha I'm a communist" card a bit too much to appeal to the voter group with the lowest turn-out.

Old people will vote for Cuomo/Trump. It's going to be bernie situation.

It's New York fucking City dude.

It would be dumb for New York to vote for a communist with literally the only President and Vice President in office who would literally send in the tanks for a day of good television.

Trumps

I wouldn't be too surprised if he still gets it. It's still funny though that it seems to be close. If there was anyone running who is a Democrat and not also an octogenarian sexpest they'd probably beat Mamdani handily

It's not close, Mamdani's up 10-14 points in the polls. As he's been almost the entire race.

Hillary Clinton had a 91% winning chance Trumps

When Trump mixes himself into an election weird shit happens, especially in a city he has clout.
New York has lots of Italians, Jews, Stock brokers. Who knows. Anything could happen.

Asians, Black People and Arabs also not a winning combination.

Staten Island was already going to vote Silwa and Cuomo.

Please try to learn how NYC votes by looking at 2021 and 2024, which were not remotely close elections:
