Going by Zohran's victory speech and some of his other statements, I do think he genuinely thinks the workers should seize the means of production, but he is being tactical to stay in the electoralism lane of socialism. We will see if he is co opted by the capitalist Democratic Party and capitulates, which is always a risk of joining a bourgeois party rather than running under a socialist party.

And somehow you have people arguing that Brazil is not a capitalist country. They're actually just lying to themselves. They HAVE to be deranged or something. In what world is Brazil a socialist country? Its run and influenced by capitalism like every other damn country.

On communism its crazy how the US has turned this ideology, one of the most important to ever be presented, as some boogeyman instead of what it is. Im not that smart, but even I understood what I was taught about it in middle and high school. It's also profoundly a part of most of the world's globe politics. You have multiple communist, not socialist, parties in Europe, Africa and Latin America. Hell, marxism is arguably the most important political ideology for colonized nations, and responsible for a great of anti-colonial movements and anti-imperialism thought. I don't understand this idea. Maybe that's something about the american reality, but "tell them how you will help them succeed in their life" is literally part of revolutionary or non revolutionary socialism, and communism. "The inclusion of socialism causes confusion" is not always the norm. There are several contemporary politicans across Latin America, Africa and Asia who reached prominence not because they distanced themselves of the revolutionary aspect of capitalist rupture, but because they embraced it.

It makes me confused actually. Do people think socialism or communism have zero short term solutions for capitalism? That it is all about a long term goal of revolution and the end of capitalism? Mamdani won without saying he's a socialist, but would it impossible to win if he did say it? Maybe in the U.S.A, which is unfortunate. Besides, hasn't the DSA actually been steadily going even further left? Away from social democracy, into socialism, just not a revolutionary one.

I mean, the DSA straight up states, and I quote: "Capitalism is a system designed by the owning class to exploit the rest of us for their own profit. We must replace it with democratic socialism, a system where ordinary people have a real voice in our workplaces, neighborhoods, and society." That's not maintaining capitalism, that's destroying it.

The DSA, unlike many, straight up acknowledges the U.S' position as the nexus of contemporary imperialism, for example, stating one of it's goals is to: "End economic sanctions that impact the sovereignty of countries whose governments act independently of the United States, such as Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran." That's far above and beyond today's position of almost every U.S politican about Cuba, Venezuela and Iran.

I know that the DSA is a decentralized organization, and thus, shares many politicians who don't endorse all of it's goals. Yet, we cannot say that those that ally themselves with the DSA are unaware of organization's objectives: end U.S imperialism, the exploitation of underdeveloped nations by historical western powerhouses and ultimately, replace capitalism as a whole with a worker-focused, collective economical system. Are those goals that unpopular to americans? If so, that is profoundly saddening.

Those goals are unpopular to everyone, there's barely any countries in the world where this wins fair elections.  

i have to imagine that anyone over the age of 25 has lived enough to not afford to think that there is a "misunderstanding" at play rather than a concentrated effort to unroot the the basis of any useful conversation by deteriorating the political discourse. like. it's known. democratic socialism is not complicated, you can just take a look at social democrat parties in US/EU and get a good sense of what it means in a contemporary western context, and go wider if necessary. these people are not dumb. they are invested in disabling any ability to truly apprehend the state of things and to imagine a better future.
