There's a point that Innuendo Studios brought up that roughly says that the mere presentation of a differing opinion, fact, or principle, even when innocuously stated and not relevant to any on-going debate, can trigger defensiveness and sudden lashing out because it merely reminds people of a contradiction. It's why, for example, when someone is asked if they'd like a burger and they say "no thanks, I'm vegan," they might get some smart shit said to them even though there isn't really an argument or debate to be had. It's the sudden introduction of a new way of being or thinking, something that eats at the comfortable status quo, a potential point of invective, that is the actual problem in this scenario, not that the person turned down food.

Hence why people get pissed off by just reminding you of the history of Thanksgiving. Any sense of judgement is not the problem. The problem is being reminded of the omnipresence of European colonialism and the uncomfortableness of the fact that even ostensibly "good people" have done almost fuck all towards actually ending it. They just want a day to rest, man. They're tired.

Personally, for me, none of the history/social studies classes educated the classes I was in about the actual history behind Thanksgiving, I was taught the whitewashed version. I didn't find out the actual history behind Thanksgiving until well after graduating high school.

That said, i do want to make sure people understand that getting demonetized is one of the worst things to happen to a new video. Most videos make 85% of their money in the first 48-72 hours of their existence. This is also usually when a video is demonetized. So for a video essayist who only posts once a month or once every few months, and puts a lot of time and resources into a video that can be a huge problem. Thus, most of us will monitor closely if and when a video is demonetized so we can pull it down. This preserve's the video's ability to make money as we hopefully fix whatever the problem is. Despite my reputation as a wealthy famous youtuber, I am not in a position to not get paid on a video. A lot of people's views have been down since the summer for whatever reason. I haven't had a big viral video all year so this performing so well going into December was a big boost. You may have noticed I stopped doing other sponsors outside of nebula, and for me sponsors were never big checks for numerous reasons. So YouTube adsense is still a big part of my income, and a big video (for me that's something that hits over 1 mil in less than a month) is really valuable.

I'm making my way through One Piece for the first time and had heard this a few times in recent years. I think the streamer Hasanabi really did a good explainer as to why Luffy and the Straw Hats' story is politically charged, but I never knew just how much so until I started watching it for myself.

I think is silly to say that One Piece is particularly politically charged when other shonen stories have used similar plot points since decades. One Piece just happens to be ultra popular (and mostly well done) because stuff like:

At this point I cannot resent One Piece used as a political symbol given that a movement that was pissing my government was using it.  But I like to point out that is not as particularly charged compared with other comic stuff, and the political messaging doesn’t goes beyond “FRIENDSHIP AND DREAMS”.
