The funny thing is, what SinnyIndonesian tried to pull isn't all that different from what ERA does on the regular when someone they don't like fall on hard times/experience life changing events. The only difference here is that Gene Park isn't sufficiently a chud in their eyes to make what SinnyIndonesian tried to pull acceptable. 

SinnyIndonesian would have gotten back-pats and the thread would be snarky/mocking if the news was about Colin Moriarty, for instance.

Is this just stealth bullying? I've heard a lot of horror stories about people having poor hygiene but a lot of the times poor hygiene is the result of poor mental health. There are many types of smelly people.

Some are smelly because they legitimately don't understand how they're being perceived, because they weren't brought up properly, they aren't good at picking up social cues, so on and so forth.

Some people are smelly because they aren't able to meet hygienic needs, due to mental health issues, economic issues, other material problems or whatever.

Some people are smelly because they're intentionally and willfully uninterested in making other people comfortable and are fine being gross.

The problem is that nerd spaces will attract all kind of people who smell for all kinds of different reasons, and the methods used to address one group won't necessarily help deal with other groups. With some people a sign saying "hey, you might smell, maybe consider that?" will resolve it. With some people a gentle person-to-person "hey, just FYI, you're getting a little funky" will help. With some people you need intense social shaming and zero-tolerance policy to prevent them from accessing a space while grody.

Ideally you have all of them in place and have event coordinators capable of dividing and addressing them as needed.
