The USA being the top economy doesn't take away from the growth experienced by other countries. China is infinitely wealthier than it was in the 1980s yet is not in any way trending towards liberal democratic reforms. If the current Iranian regime had a good economy and normal relations then I doubt it would change its overarching goals.

yeah, it's really fucking weird seeing people here applaud this when like. i was not able to make any meaningful connections in school and the only reason i stayed alive is because i had online friends. i realized i was trans at age 14 thanks to knowing trans people on the internet and having them teach me what these things meant; i don't really want to think about what my life would have been like if i remained oblivious to that! even if i had realized on my own, what resources would i have had when i lived in the southern us and school counselors and therapists wouldn't even take me seriously if i said i was suffering from abuse? these kinds of support networks are essential to keeping marginalized kids from killing themselves and it's foolish to go along with it just because it means sticking one to zuck
