And they don't even bother to read the actual conversation to see that they're musing about if the addictive aspects of games could be used educationally, like instead of leveling up for unlocks in Call of Duty you learned to read. The futurist nut writes a Nepenthe-like essay about this and Kotick's basically like "maybe!" and refers to what they're doing in Call of Duty. This is the proof that Epstein caused microtransactions in Call of Duty. The thing they're discussing that already existed and the entire conversation is about moving into other areas.

It's natural for our tastes to change as we get older, I used to prefer sweet but nowadays prefer savoury for example. This can happen for many reasons.

Another thread has sparked this thought in me and I'm curious, has your tastes, feelings, opinions etc in films and media changed over the years? Like are their genres you didn't touch or like as a kid that you know love and enjoy or vice versa? Have you grown tired of certain tropes or sick of certain types of plots or in the case of gaming, grown tired or certain mechanics or gameplay loops?

This can be about films, games, TV, streaming, comics, online media, books etc etc.

Note: this thread is not here for you to make pot shots at other users. please don't use it for that.

When it comes to media in general, I think I've grown to enjoy horror less and less over the years, mostly because it's really hard to not notice just how much of it is based in ableism or othering, like I hear about about a popular horror film only to realize it's ANOTHER series that uses the "Creepy crossdresser" or transphobia, "People with mental health issues are either monsters, and killers, creeps; or pathetic hapless victims"; and in general I have less patience for gore and works just trying to be shocking then tell compelling stories. Their are of course some good horror films out there that don't do this and still being made, but I find myself getting less and less excited for horror films or dreading they'll go the ableist route. The horror I usually like nowadays is suspense horror.

Slashers are a really big one for me; I just don't like slashers (and a lot of horror) anymore, in fact I kind of hate the genre for it's open misogyny and ableism in that genre that seems to be celebrated. I'm of women getting murdered for the crime of enjoying sex or being open about the sexuality is funny or something to cheer at (and please don't try to post that works like Cabin in the Wood is trying to be ironic and meta about it, no, it still does it, being self-aware doesn't make it better); all I'm meant to cheer it on and think it's funny. I'm really sick of being expected to ignore the constant blatant ableism in the genre; that having any sort of mental health condition or being neurodivergent makes you violent and a killer, something to be feared and othered. Like even in "good" Slasher films, the ableism is blatant like the opening scene of 2018 Halloween and the absolutely disgusting portrayal of Psychiatric Hospital patients and the message of "therapy doesn't work, violence towards people with mental health issues is the answer!".

When it comes to video games, I've found myself enjoying more and more visual novels and more linier narrative driven games. I want good stories and as I've gotten tired, have less patience for constant micromanaging of inventory, constant backtracking and grinding; plus I've found those kind of games are more likely to have proper LLGBTQ+ representation and canon diverse leads. I've also as I've gotten older basically just stopped playing online multiplayer games due to a mixture of bad experiences and less and less interest playing against other people, like Fighting games are still my fav genre, but I rarely play the online components (and get annoyed when they try to push you into it); probably why I want a full dedicated single player FRPG more and more.
