It's also a matter of certain mods handling certain kind of reports. I've always been a "can handle generally anything" type so I can bounce between queues, while others might want to be more specialized and that is totally ok because any help is helpful. We have some mods that really only want to handle stuff like sports or entertainment, others who are focused on cultural issues, some on politics, and some on gaming. Not everyone has to handle everything, not everyone has the experience to handle everything, it is a volunteer position after all.

Which is essentially what's happening right now. Whenever people mention the word "genocide" in this thread, they implicitly mean the Gaza war, as if that genocide is the only one that's ever happened, will ever happen and will ever matter. But it's not.

You could make a pretty strong argument that the complete obliteration of USAID by Trump and Musk is a genocide as well. One that is happening in slow motion, certainly, but pretty much every expert with a grasp on the long-term effects has mentioned that the numbers will get there. And unlike Gaza, where the central actor in the driving seat was not the US government but a foreign head of state with agency of his own, this one's a 100% the result of Trump being allowed to return to power.

And that's not even getting to the effects of the War with Iran and the energy and food crisis that the Hormuz blockade will result in. Spoiler alert: lots of lives will be lost as a result of that as well. Lives that would have been spared if Trump had not been allowed back into the White House. Another one that's entirely on the uniquely unqualified man who was returned to the White House in 2024 because "Iran will not block the Strait of Hormuz because they will be too busy capitulating to us with tears in their eyes while calling me sir" is not a thought process any other president would ever entertain.

Seeing all this, when someone says "Genocide is my red line for voting", what I'm really reading nowadays is "I'm so upset that I was unable to prevent genocide A that I couldn't be bothered to prevent genocide B anymore". No vote or non-vote in 2024 was gonna restore those lost in Gaza back to life. But the right outcome in 2024 could have saved a lot of lives that have been lost since or will be lost in the near future. If you really care about innocent lives being lost, not just in Gaza but everywhere, and more importantly care about lives that can still be saved, not just those that have already been lost, not voting allowed the wrong horse to cross the finish line and with the power of retrospect will be a pretty big stain on anyone's anti-genocide creds.
