It's shocking the number of criminals who willfully choose to not understand this. Even when told to do better. The cruelty is the point.

I think perhaps anything coming from the NYT is not to be taken at face value, especially considering media's need to center lonely men in everything.

But they're not the only ones who missed it, and I'm inclined to look at a population like America's who went to serious bat for the Mario movie as largely unable to engage in significant or critical media analysis.

Who is the "we?" Is all power corrupting all the time? Is violence towards other humans always unjustified? You need to be specific and articulate in your diagnoses and issues here.

But regardless, you are extremely mistaken if you think that history has not at all changed throughout our time on this planet, that we have not had extremely different and less volatile ways of living than capitalist imperialism, which is the root cause of today's suffering and a relatively recent phenomenon given how long we've actually existed as a species.

Things seem eternal in part because capitalists have told you that they are eternal and you mistakenly believe them. This only helps people like Elon who benefit from people thinking that their power is eternal and inevitable, because it means you won't actually fight against them.

Violence has never been lower than today. (And life never more stable.) Which is presumably what she's really upset about considering her second and third questions.

Prior to the invention of anesthesia and germ theory of disease, the pre-capitalists did war, slavery, and coercive hierarchy in a much softer and less volatile way.  Don't believe the imperialists.

If you're still an employee of microsoft you support genocide.

Coercive hierarchy? I think you mean community policing and being seriously checked for saying stupid shit.

While it was obviously bad and getting worse, the process of starting to literally make it illegal to be too poor shows to me the blatant divide in our system is getting far too great, and I will not be supporting a system that stands for this level of dehumanization. This isn't out of nowhere unfortunately, but for me the line was crossed in radicalizing me. And unfortunately a surefire sign of things to come.

Resetera doesn't need likes to expose the divide between the popular opinion and the accepted mod opinion. They already have polls.

Shamed the fuck out of him and his trashbag mother for putting those disgusting words in his mouth, and then for having the audacity to inflict that shit on me. I was having a good day prior to that.

Looks like the actual point of the bill is to create a "homelessness court" like drug courts or whatever:
Quote:House Bill No. 211 seeks to establish a Homelessness Court program in Louisiana, aimed at assisting individuals experiencing homelessness by addressing issues such as substance abuse and mental health disorders. The bill amends R.S. 44:4.1(B)(6) and introduces Chapter 33-D of Title 13, detailing the program's goals, definitions, and operational framework. The program emphasizes a nonadversarial approach, integrating health care, education, and rehabilitative services into the criminal justice process, with the intent to reduce recidivism, provide housing assistance, and promote accountability among participants. It also creates the crime of unauthorized camping on public property, establishing penalties and eligibility criteria for participants, while outlining a structured pathway for individuals to receive necessary support for reintegration into society.

The legislation includes provisions for monitoring defendants' progress in the Homelessness Court program, allowing for probation revocation if conditions are violated. Successful completion can lead to the dismissal of charges without a conviction, ensuring that individuals do not face the same legal disabilities as traditional convictions. The bill also introduces R.S. 14:107.6, defining unauthorized camping and establishing penalties, while allowing for participation in the Homelessness Court or Veterans Court for eligible offenders. Furthermore, R.S. 40:581 prohibits public camping in non-designated areas but permits political subdivisions to designate specific properties for public camping under certain conditions, ensuring safety and sanitation standards are met. The provisions will take effect upon the governor's signature, with certain sections becoming effective on January 1, 2027.
They want to use the threat of criminal punishment to force the homeless into the programs that exist that the thread is demanding.

yeah I was actually reading the bill and the framing is disingenuous as hell, saying "this is what the bill does" when it's a vague and inaccurate rewording of a small part of the bill

it disallows "public camping" on public property i.e. streets, sidewalks, parks etc. which doesn't take place in registered camping vehicles or on defined campgrounds

it also has a provision that says a political subdivision (town etc.) may designate an area for public camping, if there are not sufficient beds in homeless shelters (hint, hint)

Factually incorrect. This period will be looked back on as the age of peace and prosperity.
