I didn't expect 1-2 years ago that things would be THIS bad, but I DID expect it to be bad in general. Just wow. What a mindblowing sequence of events that have led to this outcome. I don't have much to say.

I'm moving across country and literally, the only things I care about are my desktop PC components and my LG TVs and my Chinese handhelds (AYN Thor/Odin 3) and my PS5 Pro, all purchased with the known panic that this was coming....but.....Jesus. Its one thing to expect a wave to crash on you, its another to have it and feel it crash on you.

What's frustrating about takes like yours is that you'll purposefully ignore the fact that it was the start of a new universe after 15 years of almost entirely mediocre-to-terrible DC films, of which most of the ones that involved Superman fell into the "terrible" category. And that's not even counting the fact that there was a previous Superman reboot in the 2000s that also sucked.

Superman 2025 had an uphill battle because it had to regain the trust of audiences.

i've heard from too many experts now who are warning about Anthropic's Mythos and other analogous AI systems that could make basically any service unsafe, any website hackable etc, and even banks are panicking about the whole issue (Jamie Dimon calling/warning the US Treasury Secretary for example).



some expert on a mainstream news show said that he thinks it's mere months until the internet turns to chaos and to a criminal playground, unless governments take swift action now.. but what do you even do when super powerful hacking tools are accessible to anyone..? how do you prevent some edgy asshole who wants to cause misery targeting some specific company and directing maybe several different hyper-efficient AI hacking agents to infiltrate a company's systems and start deleting everything, backups included?



someone please reassure me this is an overblown fear and that it's not actually possible, that every big company has so many backups on air-gapped servers and whatnot, that they are safe even from the most advanced AI agents that we will have in November.. they are sufficiently prepared, right?



felt kinda embarrassed by the title of the thread ngl lol, but i am really worried about stuff like this being in our near future, very near future.. of course a videogame being destroyed by hacking wouldn't be as devastating as our bank accounts getting wiped out or something. but a phenomenon like GTAVI would be a prime target for someone who just wants internet infamy and see a fanbase go insane.. like achieving the ultimate schadenfreude.

That...that list doesn't cost $10k lol. Especially that they bought it 2 years ago, prices were rock bottom back then that you could easily get 96GB of RAM for next to nothing what it costs now. I just paid $600AUD for 48GB of DDR5 6400 second hand, because a) that is actually incredibly cheap for prices right now, and b) I only have DDR4 as backup so need DDR5 backup for my main computer.

Even those who skyped about grabbing 5090's on release when they already had a 4080/4090 will still feel it, because ALL prices have gone up meaning that more affluent person is not so affluent now in their cost price ratio.
