This is even more frustrating as a lesbian because our mere existence in games is constantly treated with hostility, where we're considered a hindrance to people's romances, "hogging" rep from straight women, our sexualities erased by porn and the fandom for being an inconvenience (because women MUST be just fap material for men! God forbid we have women in games that aren't attractive to men) and constantly dismissed as just titillation for straight men; an attitude constantly normalized, yet these attitudes are normalized and treated a-okay. Both were designed either by or with the direct involvement of women and it shouldn't be surprising that there's different ways men can be sexualised in general to people who are attracted to them. A lot of the critique of women being sexualised beyond just inequality is in the lack of diversity and manner in which 'sexy' is appealed to, with it all too often just being big breasts and skimpy clothes. Which doesn't preclude queer women finding them attractive or liking the designs outside of attraction, but it's more about the narrowness of that view in general when it comes to companies designing female characters with that intent in mind. I think it's good that when we're seeing men designed to be attractive or sexy it's broader in scope, if still frequently far more restrained, but it would be good if that were married with similar diversity in what 'sexy' means for female character designs.

The discourse around Captain America's bulge is getting extremely obnoxious. You can't talk about equality without getting into equity. The prevalence of the male gaze is a goddamn barrier to entry that women have to pay. That skin is nothing in the grand scheme of it all. Men have it all, if it drives away some dudes they just turn to other 5 billion games catering to their tastes.

Ignore your actual audience. Force your work as if it matches broader demographics but ALSO overrepresent underrepresented groups. And every work that ignores this to instead cater to their actual audience is another representation offense!  

The IGN poll thread got me thinking: does anyone here still use or read IGN? The last time I watched one of their videos was probably close to 15 years ago. The last time I read one of their articles was probably close to 20 years ago.

Reading that Steve Dongers thread is like so many on there. When they do bring up women's increased size in video games and attention is drawn to their overrepresentation in not only mobile games but practically zero of the traditional genres you get pages upon pages of wailing and gnashing of teeth and HOW DARE YOU STEREOTYPE WOMEN and I'M A LESBIAN AND I LOVE FIGHTING GAMES WITH HENTAI AND VORE ELEMENTS. Right, like I said you don't care about women in gaming except for how they reinforce and justify what you like. 

And so, because you're chasing a specific and entirely hypothetical type of woman, who likely will never be more than a small minority simply because of the demographics you demand, you find yourself trying to sanitize games for these hypothetical women, getting rid of the high heels, eliminating the popular cosplays, etc. And when I achieve this, she will thank me and reward me with her company. What more could a woman want from a man or lesbian than being given the entire gaming industry as a present?

Get over it. Let artists creates what they want to no matter how dumb or tacky or whatever. God forbid. How dare they. You think that's bad? They've done bundles with CDPR and Stardock in the past too. Even before IGN bought them, they're well known fascists who hate the Global South. Basically a pipeline to fascism that takes advantage of the precarious situation in late stage capitalism that make bundles enticing and paper over the contradictions of the system. I never set them to zero or the lowest of the three because there's value in their assembling and selling (in terms of selling the devs on participating) these, but there's been plenty of publishers I set as low as possible. Probably the reason they got rid of it because yeah, I'm definitely setting EA to zero.

In other words, I'm the reason EA had to lay off so many employees and sell to the Saudis. I set their share of the Humble Bundle from like ten years ago to zero.
