Yes there are ways to connect PCs to a TV but there is no one-fits-all device that acts like a console with their ease of use and TV friendly UI/User Experience.
And no the Steam Machine is definitely not that device and never would have been because of it's Linux constraints and immaturity.

For hardcore gamers and enthusiasts (which are the majority of people here engaging in such topics) that's not an argument, but for most of the 300 million console players it's not even an option and never will be. Take a view outside of your own and look at the bigger picture. Articles like these are just a desperate attempt to drive engagement to feed off the current outrage.

lol

You know the ponys are coping hard when they’re pretending connecting the HDMI cable from a pc to a TV is the thing that will stop console gamers migrating.

I've been doing this for years and I don't know why everyone doesn't do it

yes TVs are intended for further away viewing, you can just increase the UI scale

fuck apple fire sticks or chrome sticks or even the steam machine, nothing proprietary, no built in ads or walled gardens

Wut
Can someone explain how Netflix is a monopoly when HBO Max, Disney+, Peacock, Paramount+ and Hulu exist? Not to mention the free options like Pluto and Tubi.

Also how are they not allowed to raise prices during a multi-year inflationary period. Also how are they not allowed to “gatekeep” content they fund or pay for the rights to offer? And how are they gatekeeping? By charging a subscription fee?

Bell telecom was a monopoly. Netflix is just a successful company that has a huge customer base.

Yeah, pretty obvious you haven't done the work and read the theory. A "monopoly" is a company that does something I don't like. "Anti-trust" means remember that the corporation is not your friend, so don't trust it like one.

Which is exactly why the former FTC Chair Lina Khan's allies are right and they and the Justice Department need to make it cheaper for me to stay subscribed to Netflix's monopoly.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lina_Khan#Reception wrote:Makan Delrahim, then serving as Assistant Attorney General for the Antitrust Division under Donald Trump, praised Khan for her "fresh thinking on how our legal tools apply to new digital platforms".[20]

Joshua Wright, who served on the FTC from 2013 to 2015, derided Khan's work as "hipster antitrust" and argued it "reveal[ed] a profound lack of understanding of the consumer welfare model and the rule of reason framework."[21] Herbert Hovenkamp wrote that Khan's claims were "technically undisciplined, untestable, and even incoherent", and that her work "never explains how a nonmanufacturing retailer such as Amazon could ever recover its investment in below cost pricing by later raising prices, and even disputes that raising prices to higher levels ever needs to be a part of the strategy, thus indicating that it is confusing predation with investment."[22]

That would backfire given how hyper autistic is the Avatar fandom. Yeshrug

Probably the best move right now is just ignore her and search for an artist that is not easily pushed by their partner to create a controversy.

I mean, the reality is also that Microsoft is killing a legendary game studio that actually release games that people want. Yeshrug

Who wants some creepy shrine at the office they were fired from? I wouldn’t want anything like that, ever. Especially as some feeble means of performative protest or whatever.

Also, guaranteed that for each person who is sad these people were canned there is someone else who thought they would never see the day those lazy assholes got the axe and I bet it’s those people who get the biggest kick out of seeing that stupid memorial every day when they come to work.

And I’ll just say that pathetic display is about as low effort as anything I expect out of Bethesda.

Given the time and budget, I could create a legendary game too. Doesn't mean it's going to be profitable or my operation sustainable in the long term.

AAA was always going to kill the industry and it's doing a great job currently.

AA gaming was always the engine room of the industry and where all the cool innovation and fun happened. Sony and MS fucked the whole industry by pushing this "cinematic" bullshit on us.

Many of those cuts were industry veterans… the kind of people that the industry desperately needs to maintain given the snail pace of game development and dependency of contractors.

The shrine is stupid, I agree, but I don’t think half of them got fired because “laziness”.

I’m old enough to remember back when the cool kid criticism of boomers was that they were psychologically enslaved to their pointless office job, and foolishly allowed it to define their self worth.

We’re never gonna be like those empty suits!

Anyway, modern employees act like this now.

Quote:One former studio head said that it was confusing in terms of goals that Microsoft wanted. Was it subscribers for Xbox Game Pass? High engagement time on Game Pass? Revenues and profits from standalone copies sold? Technology demos for the platform? id Software is a part of Bethesda, whose parent firm, ZeniMax, was bought by Microsoft in 2021 for $7.5 billion.

Doom: The Dark Ages got a Metacritic aggregate review score of 83 out of 100 — not bad. The problem with it was that it was played by millions of fans, but many played it for free on Game Pass. Doom was like a counter to other PlayStation games like God of War or The Last of Us. But Doom: The Dark Ages standalone game sales, which would have generated more revenues and profits, were weak. That made it a target. If id Software knew that the goal was revenues and profits, it might have opted for live service or multiplayer modes instead.

As a consumer, I like the concept of gamepass but…

How is that remotely fair? How can you not set real goals for your devs? They made a big ass DLC for a game that had low sales because you let them. But suddenly is a problem and fuck you… Mike
