Imagine if Mamdani was born in the US. He could "stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody" and he "wouldn't lose any voters."

What's the deal with Hasan's salvation army suits all of sudden? I guess he thinks wearing a suit makes him look like a serious political commentator, but has to dress up as community college teacher from the 90s to not lose his working class cred?

Streamer Shoe0nHead criticized his clothes so now he's wearing suits that fit like a 12yo thrift store suit for a 2nd cousin's wedding in a "we demand to be taken seriously/how do you do fellow serious political pundits" effort.

https://www.dazed.me/life-culture/hasan-piker-american-dreamer wrote:Few things confuse people as much as Hasan Piker’s body. The Twitch streamer, also known as HasanAbi, has taken to wearing suits as a form of armour lately. “I used to wear T-shirts all the time,” he says. “But then I figured I should start wearing a suit and a tie because there are a lot of adults watching on Fox News—if they see me saying something in the clips, they’ll be more receptive to what I have to say if I’m in a more appealing format.”

His logic is surprisingly pragmatic. Years spent under constant scrutiny have honed his sensitivity to perception. “When I got the first barrage of negative coverage a couple of months ago, and a bunch of think tanks decided I was the real enemy they must forcibly excise from American politics, that’s when I started wearing suits.”

Whether he’s wearing vintage Zegna trousers bought secondhand for $30 or a WASP-y corduroy blazer, at 6’4”, Piker’s superhero build has become a vessel for other people’s assumptions, fantasies, and anxieties. For many, it remains difficult to reconcile the body with the politics. The New York Times once called him “a progressive mind in a MAGA body”, a notion he laughs off. The description is inherently loaded. And it says as much about contemporary political aesthetics as it does about Piker; the suggestion that his body and his politics belong to opposing worlds is a reflection of how quickly appearance has become a political shorthand.

There is a longstanding argument that the pursuit of endless self-improvement mirrors the logic of capitalism itself. The body becomes another asset to refine and another site of labour. Piker draws a line between the two.

since they show clips of him on mainstream news all the time now, he decided to start wearing suits so that people take him more seriously and he looks more official lol

To appear more serious and professional for all the Barbara’s and Gerold’s that watch cable news mainly. It has been effective at getting them to shift more leftwards!

He got sick of getting fashion-mogged by Kyle Kulinski.

In all seriousness, it's to show he's really a professional so when recent clips of him get put on main stream news, it gives the appearance (which is everything to normies) that he is a serious individual.

i also have weary suspicions on people who present themselves in a more upper-class manner by wearing formal attire so i completely understand your viewpoint

but you must understand that hasan is getting more mainstream attention now. he appears in fox news and has gotten his visa revoked to enter the UK because he is seen as a threat to the establishment. our corner of the political sphere is still a minority that outsiders are suspicious and close-minded of. so a figurehead like hasan dressing the part that they're comfortable with will help the movement gain more attention overall

a lot of Americans are frivolous and unserious

Presentation matters a lot.

I used to work with this very nice older white lady who I thought would be open to Bernie Sanders and when I introduced him to her she told me she couldn't take him seriously because he was unkempt.

I truly believe that she would have supported Bernie if he had a better haircut

It's stupid but many people are stupid

Hasan dressing in a suit opens up his message to more people than if he dressed like a hot topic worker

There's a lot of Boomers in this country

The way Hasan used to dress would cause a lot of older people to immediately dismiss him. Now he dresses in a way that they will give his message a chance.

I mean he is almost 40 he is becoming more polished and professional in his life. Taking care of yourself is something you learn as you get older and to value yourself even if other people put you down or bash you all day. It’s called self worth and self love. Socialist can also love themselves and take care of themselves too. They would love to see him dress bad so they can speak about how out of wack a socialist is with culture and society. Zohran never used to wear a suit and tie. They started to take him more seriously with a suit and tie we live in a capitalistic system that revels in materialistic goods. Many people have been programmed to not take you seriously unless you have professional attire that is why when you turn on all the networks they all have suits and ties.

It is so Hasan can move better in Mainstream Media environments and Intellectual environments, while trying to appeal to a broader audience. It is working, the ladies love it, the MILFs love it, Ex-HOGs, and the LGBTQ+ are just eating it up. He looks great and built to where he looks pretty domineering standing next to others, also in suits.

He's said it couple times on stream but I understand not everyone is a fan of live streams or interfacing with the Twitch app. He's wearing suits in part because Fox news keeps covering him and he want's to look good in the clips they pull to show on Fox. Also him wearing suits has been winning over the olds that go to check him out after seeing all of the mainstream news discourse about him.

because right wingers judge people by appearance and not by what they're actually saying. suit = intelligent respectable man (in their monkey brains)
Truly the intellectual vanguard of our era.

The thing is, the suits look absolutely shit on him. Like a kid trying on Daddy's suit which way too big. Reminds me of mid 90s NBA

One of the funny things is he's trying to appear professional like Fox News commentators or whatever but he and his fans are clearly falling into their own naive belief about cable news in a way that will always make them look less so against even the lowest common denominator of the cable news pundit. Those people aren't live reacting to whatever they're shown off the cuff. On most shows the commentators are specifically chosen for what they'll say and it being known beforehand, and on many of the shows they submit their "talking points" beforehand (as bullet points or whatever) so the host can know to bring them up. And many of those commentators are not just some rando, they have columns or write all kinds of other stuff, that's where their claim of "expertise" comes from. That's why they're always plugging their latest book or whatever. Or they're a lawyer or former judge or military guy or whatever, you're supposed to trust their nonsense because they did some other stuff with actual standards.

Tucker Carlson or even some guest on one of those shows is pretty much never going to go on the air and just say whatever shit comes to mind in the moment. Twitter has been so revealing because we've been able to see how dumb these people truly are when they do try to do this and commentate on everything immediately especially where they have no time to plan what they're saying or even basic research.

But this is basically, from what I can tell, all of Hasan's content. And it's kind of the essential component of the medium. He does pretty much no show prep than leaving some tabs open when he sees them earlier in the day. That's like the actual work day of what Sean Hannity or whoever do and have always done. The entire show is planned out, scheduled, has to hit specific time marks for commercials, they mark down at least some semblance of what they want to say about each topic and how they want to present it and why it's relevant to include, etc. Hasan (or any of these people) just sitting there for eight hours rambling and looking at random shit is fundamentally a different exercise.

He might be fashion conscious, but prior to that he was alternating between homely grandma and 70s porn star. And he had this brief Mao phase. So it's par for the course.

Spoiler:  (click to show)
Discussing Hasan Piker's wardrobe...Just kill me.

Edit: I bet he saw Mockler on CNN and thought "why I'm not getting this sweet CNN cash? Must be the suit".

I think it's funnier that they didn't "brand him a terrorist", but a hateful conspiracy theorist who says things most people wouldn't like. But Hasan apparently sees any criticism at all and thinks "terrorist." Which explains a lot really.

I should have known better than to look at the replies and quotes. Can't get enough of international political experts explaining that 9/11 was "blowback" for supporting the mujahedeen against the Soviets or never mentioning exactly what well known adult inheritance in the multi-millions from billionaire family Osama's personal beef with US foreign policy was. Dead

Also, why would he attack Trump? He's said the ideal model of governance for America is Xi, and Trump is trying his best to be that, regularly attacking capitalism and attempting authoritarian measures, etc..
