Nobody but the nerds were excited about Lord of the Rings films until they hit pre-release hype. 

Why would anyone have offered huge money to actors for movies that were expected to be anything from a mild success to a wild failure?

If Austin expected them to be a huge success, he should have taken a reduced pay packet and a cut of the profits. He obviously didn't think it was going to work so went with an upfront payment. It's only "unfair" if you consider it in light of the ridiculous success.

He was a child actor who was acting in straight-to-video tier movies at the time. He didn't have the fucking clout to ask for residuals on top of that salary. They would have just hired somebody else.

The mere fact that he got $250k for three movies shows the status of his career at the time. I looked up the bigger name of the hobbits and he only got $1 million and says they signed for all three movies upfront:

Wood explained that production company New Line Cinema had taken “a real gamble” on the massive ensemble cast for the trilogy which included the likes of Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom, John Rhys-Davies, Christopher Lee, Sean Astin, Andy Serkis, and Sean Bean.

Describing the trade-off as “understandable”, Wood said the studio cushioned the risk by the cast’s “not massive salaries”.

Since the cast members were shooting the films back-to-back, it left them no opportunity to renegotiate their contracts if the films did well.

“The benefit of that was that we were also signing up for something that was going to be a part of our lives forever,” he said.

Asked about rumours that he was paid $250,000 (£190,000) for The Fellowship of the Ring, Wood disputed the figure, but didn’t share more.

“It doesn't matter,” he said.

However, other cast members have spoken about their salaries previously. In 2019, Orlando Bloom, who was cast as the elf Legolas when he was 22, said on The Howard Stern Show that he received $175,000 (£133,000) for all three films.

“Nothing, nothing, nothing. I got nothing. $175 grand for three movies… No listen, greatest gift of my life, are you kidding me? Would do it again for half the money,” he said.

On Blanchett’s comment, Wood said it was “hilarious” and was made in jest.

“Statements like that are not made with any kind of ire. It’s such an honour to have been a part of those films and they represent some of the best experiences of my life.”

That same story says Astin has been talking about this since at least 2017. But nearly a decade later it's news and outrage to ResetERA.com. A sign of how things are just getting worse and it's time to start slitting the throats of people who don't respect us by just giving us whatever we ask for.

I'd love to see us come up with empathy and accommodations instead but capitalism demands compliant workers, so all of us ADHD/ASD/AuADHD people are just aberrations that need to be eliminated in their eyes.

Literally the opposite. Socialism demands compliant workers (OR IT'S TREASON) and would eliminate "malingerers" who don't do their part. Capitalism allows you to live off idle capital. That's the same dude has done phenomenal work pissing off Marathon fanboys on Era over the past four months Tracking and predicting the CCU with pretty impressive accuracy over the first two seasons as it gets lower and lower while the fanboys stick their fingers in their ears and keep telling everyone the game is great and they're having a blast. Loads of them have been thread banned for complaining about the CCU thread, it's like swatting away flies.

You're right that both Sony and Nintendo need to expand into new regions. Sony still have some European nations they have yet to enter and it's unacceptable. eShop actually exists in all of baltic nations. Other European regions such as Balkans, Caucasus and the rest of the Gulf needs official representation as well. They deserve it.

But.. for the rest... purchasing power is just too weak in some countries for console makers to enter. Nothing to gain and much to lose.
