I would love to hear more of Hasan's opinion on the "Korean issue" at length.

Semi-related, North Korea used to publish their propaganda as full-page ads in The New York Times (something, coincidentally, Donald Trump also used to do) among elsewhere and I think Hasan should start doing this too: https://archive.ph/SQOhg

Strange as it may sound today, North Korean ads such as this were relatively common in major Western newspapers from 1969 to as late as 1997.

In an attempt to impress the West during the Cold War (and beyond), the North Korean government placed full-page ads in The New York Times, The Guardian, The Irish Times, The London Times, The London Evening Standard, The Sun, The Boston Globe and The Washington Post touting the exploits of Kim Il Sung, Kim Jong Il, the Juche ideology and the reunification of Korea. An exact number of how many North Korean ads appeared in these newspapers is unknown but at least 100 were published from 1969-1997.

There's a hilarious one in the March 16, 1975 NYT I can't find a good picture of online, but you can see it in the online scan of the paper, it's two full-pages and all they did was publish some boring ass speech with picture of Kim Il Sung like the grain one above about "On Some Theoretical Problems of the Socialist Economy" from six years earlier in 1969.

I'm surprised he has no case at all because what Jennings said was fairly defamatory

To avoid dismissal, Hasan would have to demonstrate:
1. Jennings absolutely knew that part of the montage was sarcastic unlike the rest and decided to proceed anyway, rather than just being an idiot who rushed to condemn something he believed fit Hasan's pattern.
2. Damages, of which Hasan has none.

Because it's Jennings just posting his own nonsense on Twitter or whatever the fuck this is from, he doesn't have the burden as if he was doing it in his already pretty low capacity as a commentator at CNN or whatever. Which is why CNN employs factcheckers, lawyers, etc. "I'm an idiot posting shit on Twitter" is largely a good defense and why you rarely see any lawsuits at all over tweets, especially when it involves public figures. Millions of tweets a day are defamatory by the standard of merely what was said but they pretty much always fail the other two standards of defamation, duty to know the truth and damages. This is, coincidentally, why much of what Hasan says about others (that you can see brought up in the replies of all of these tweets) is also protected.

If Hasan filed in California he would potentially be risking a SLAPP requiring him to pay Jennings lawyer fees. California has one of the strongest SLAPP statutes.

Not that I'm versed in defamation cases but I imagine Hasan actually saying the thing makes it also already more difficult. Yes it's taken out of context but it's also not an outright fabricated quote and Hasan himself has said that he says a lot of crazy stuff when he streams 8 hours a day
