I know, i was only joking. This is the future of gaming. This will be nvAIdias selling point for gamers. Everyone will want to have this. Makes sense why the greedy fucks over there has raised the price of their cards to ridiculous levels. The slow, incompetent people at AMD will attempt this, but will look like this in 5 years:

The existence of this thread, and the banning of dissenting voices, is not some neutral stance. It's active promotion of Gen AI.

This forum was one of the few places left on the internet not overrun with AI boosters, and it's sad that even the semi-permeable barriers in place are being taken down.

"Is it worth it for the 8 ms fixed cost?" I think so, mainly because that cost will be reduced soon.

Another person could say no because they're rocking a 5060 and right now they're not seeing returns, it's too difficult to play the games this way. Totally fair, a reasonable conversation.

"Is it worth it for homoginizing the looks of games?" I don't necessary think this is happening, but I can understand that it's a point of concern. But we're in day one. Things can change with the technology, and its fair to provide technical and aesthetic criticism to those creating new models. There should be an open workflow for artists and creators to design their own models using source assets they've created. And perhaps a hugging face of sorts for uploading models for people to share different looks. And as always, this tech should be optional.

But do you know what sucks ass? This:

"Is it worth it for [literally every single modern criticism regarding AI/LLM?]. I am very scared for my personal future and I'm treating every single discussion about it like my life depends on it and lashing out by yelling at another user on a message board rather than my legislators or the companies making the technology. Also, fuck you you tasteless piece of shit, I'm better than you."

Multiple times. Until discussion becomes impossible.

Like. Nobody can get shit done when things are like this.

And I'm going to be honest, the worst place I've seen for this topic between X, discord, youtube comments, reddit, etc. is here on era.

Like damn y'all grown ass adults, come on.

I think the version with DLSS 5 +PT looks better than the version with Raster + DLS55 and the version with only 4.5 RR PT. It's more aesthetically pleasing to my eyes and I feel it that improves the realism of the image and thus my enjoyment of viewing the game.

I think DLSS 5 is worth using in Cyperpunk 2077 if this is the visual return you get and provided you have the hardware to run it, my personal cuttoff point would be a 5090.

Derail every thread about AI, mods create a containment thread, forum rules are applied fairly, “How dare you, we want to derail and ruin that thread too.”

Era staff can be relied on to take the dumbest possible option at all times, so watch them not ban the perpetrators but instead reward them by nuking the thread.

I can only start ignoring any DLSS 5 thread I guess, but the whole justification "we are a videogame site, we have to talk about this" after prior (deserved) bans of specific discussion it ends up feeling quite off.

I guess it will be treated like Microsoft discussions, but in that case I feel there is still stuff worth discussing since the amount of studios that are part of MS and the human effort around those games.

DLSS 5 is just the new AI grift...

Y2Kev, post: 160079482, member: 1023 wrote:Based on the way most people have behaved in the DLSS threads, I think I'm in the minority here. I'm not particularly sure this is useful (for me or for others) to post, but I want to say it anyway. Hoping for things you don't like or find objectionable to be outright banned from being discussed is irrational and thinking that some portion of the community should get to decide by posting a lot in subject threads what "[doesn't] bring anything of value to the site" is unreasonable.

I don't have a PC, I don't play games on my computer, and I doubt I will use this technology unless it pops up on a console some day. I'm still fundamentally interested in this and I want to see what other people think and feel about it. Some express themselves constructively even when they are extremely negative. Others are curtly dismissive or rude, demand they get to dictate the terms of the discussion, or shout down others such that it becomes practically impossible for anyone who is interested to partake in the discussion.

There were multiple people in the last thread compare people interested in this to Nazis. I understand AI sentiment runs very hot. I think that's mostly justified. The "Nazi bar" analogy here feels silly and is othering.

Given how limited DLSS5 is right now, I think people complaining about where the images are sourced from feels like a disingenuous complaint to try to get the discussion "banned." I don't really care if an image comes from Twitter; I don't subscribe to every Twitter account on the planet, I don't use Twitter, I don't go looking for them. I'm interested in what people think is representative of the good and bad of this technology and I think most people will start posting their own screenshots as these 8 trillion dollar graphics cards become widespread. Complaining about shots coming from NeoGAF would be metacommentary in any other thread. Debate the shot! I don't go to NeoGAF, so where it comes from as though the shot itself has a political intent is an interesting thing to think about. All art is political-- are all links?

If the forum's conclusion (and this can be decided by the moderation staff) is that there is something uniquely morally objectionable about this technology, if discussing it can only be to condemn it, and if there's no value in letting people talk about its role in gaming more broadly, then that's the conclusion. I would find that an odd conclusion, but at least it would be set in stone.

The Microsoft genocide rules should apply. Those rules, by the way, don't allow for a user to run into any Xbox thread and shout, "This game is garbage and if you play it you have failed." I think caveating the issues with the technology and reminding people of them as they post is a fair outcome while allowing people to actually talk about this.

That's my view. No one asked for it, no one cares, I'm sorry.

Corncob, post: 160087249, member: 2042 wrote:Great post. I fucking hate AI and the vast majority of DLSS5 examples look terrible, but the same band of posters trying to disrupt every thread about it is so fucking boring.

I'll never use this technology but I still find it interesting seeing examples of it. Bullying end-users for enjoying experimenting with a game feature or simply discussing the technology is a fool's game. It's incredibly counter-intuitive to the anti-AI cause, as is telling people they're lying, or tasteless or a bot if you don't agree with them.

Just keep a containment thread for the tech and anyone who doesn't like it can hide it. Derailing every thread you don't like so it gets locked doesn't make you Extinction Rebellion, it's just obnoxious and childish.
