I hate to say this because I know it's controversial but sometimes I feel if both sides support taking away rights, if both sides equal sliding right and just more corruption, that it's not a system worth saving? That keeping a rotten system just harms more than it helps? At this point, I just don't trust the system, the UK system especially where it feels all sides lead to transphobia and hate, with no one in power serious in actually trying to fix the system. I Honestly dread in the Dems get into power 2028, they'll at best fix some stuff to make things back into the "status quo" but won't do any of the serious fixes to re-regulate news media, fix loopholes, break ties with Israel, reinstate Roe and trans rights, Reform the Supreme Court, limit executive power, start stripping billionaires of tech bros of their wealth and power etc... Nothing will actually reform and so in 4-8 years we're right back with an even worse Bigot in charge of the US.

Due to a wide variety of factors - ranging from decades of a carefully cultivated image paying off, pre-existing racism towards Arabs and the continued manipulation of politicians, social media and news networks - the vast majority of people in the West just think Israel is the victim of terrorism.

Listen, I watched the SkillUp review and thought it was hyberbole nonsense. He straight up called the game bad. A broken clock can be right twice. I'm not getting Wolverine, but there is no way the game is bad. It's mid. It looked mid on reveal, every presentation looked mid, and then, surprise, it released to mid reviews.



It's not a bad game, however. And saying it is bad just discredits any review.

They live in such a dumb world

Whenever I've criticized D&D, High Fantasy and RPGs on ERA before, I've said I like Dungeons and Dragons, more and more that becomes less true and I think I just have to accept that I don't like Dungeons and Dragons anymore... Or so many RPGs, tabletop and video games. So I guess this is just a vent thread (for the past week I've just been in a real bad mood and nothing seems to be helping besides just venting).



I don't like that 80%-90% of what you do in Dungeons and Dragons and many of it's ilk is combat. Every class is built around combat of some form or supporting combat (the closest that aren't Rogue classes and it's subtypes, I'll get back to them). It's pretty clear D&D is built to promote and pushing killing as the main and easiest way to deal with an situation, to reward that more then any other way of solving threats; with only a few paragraphs and hardly any rules to deal with aggression, bandits, wild animals etc with anything else. Sure you CAN run a non-combat focused campaign, but it's clearly not how the game is meant to be played and involves a lot of house ruling and the DM and other players going along with it. Like it's no wonder so many of D&D campaigns just become Murder Hobo stories, or why so many D&D inspired videos are so combat heavy; for me, a lot of the time D&D is less an RPG but a Combat simulator with RPG flavouring.
Speaking of classes, arbitrary restricting common talents and skills to certain classes just bugs me. Like I mentioned animals, why would a Druid or Ranger be the only people to how to deal with wild animals without combat, anyone could learn that. Why can't a warrior be good at speaking or poetry? Why can't a rogue wear heavy armour etc?
And speaking of clothing and this relates specifically to video games, I hate the lack of variety or more accurately, I'm sick of RPGs punishing you for trying to dress how you want. Like you could, but because everything is stated you'll be disadvantaged if you're not wearing the same Demonic Bone etc Armour that everyone does at the endgame.
Alignment, I realize this one has become less and less of an issue but I hate Alignment systems, that is not how actual morality works and I hate how it fits into another issue.
I'm sick of "X species is inherently evil so it's okay to murder them, loot them etc, you're a good person for doing so!", there are so many issues with it and while D&D has made progress with it; it and many other Tabletop RPGs still fall back into it. Goblins are a classic example of this. Remember it doesn't matter that you're clearly intelligent, have language, families, feelings, culture etc, if you're considered a "lesser race" or not "civilized" enough, you're not worth any value and it's okay to treat your deaths as funny. Baldur's Gate 3 rubbed the wrong way with this where it's clear that the Goblins lives, even Goblin children are considered less then others, that their brainwashing isn't worth any sympathy, their just mooks that you shouldn't feel bad killing. And no, "Their god made them that way!" is a cheap lazy cop-out for actual morality and writing.
I'm sick of the mentality that if you want something more then "generic" high fantasy Western European inspired setting or most of the more unique ideas, locations, people etc from Dungeons and Dragons and other RPGs; too bad, their locked off in the supplements, rarely if ever in the corebooks. You want diversity? You have to pay more for it. This isn't just a D&D issue (though 5E making Forgotten Realms (or let's be honest, JUST the Dragon Coast) as it's main setting doesn't help), so many of them do this and like why, why can't jungle settings be in corebooks, why can't non-European inspired Cultures be in the corebooks (if they exist at all)?
I'm sick of the mentality that High Fantasy = D&D and Tolkien style fantasy. That High Fantasy stories should just be D&D campaigns turned into books/comics/films. I'm sick of most high fantasy looking the same, being clearly inspired by D&D. It's why despite loving it, I'm liking games like Dragon Age less and less.
And related, I'm honestly resentful of how Dungeons and Dragons has stagnated creativity when it comes to what fantasy species and creatures can look and be; beings that in myths and folklore could be incredibly fluid and diverse, but so often in modern fantasy end up just looking the exact same. It's so obvious when I see depictions or art of Hobgoblins for example their just copying D&D. All Dragons look the same now, all Fantasy Dwarves look the same (and sound the same, I'm so sick of the "Dwarves = Scottish for no reason" trope)
I'm just bored of the same stat system over and over. Like Intelligence, what does that actually mean? What is the actual difference between a 7 and an 8; so often it's just "knowledge" and to me, knowing a lot doesn't actually make you smart, a Harvard student can be a bigoted idiot and a kid with no formal education can be highly intelligent, knowing how to use that knowledge to me is more important then just having that knowledge. It's such a shallow and inaccurate idea of intelligence; like why is wisdom so often separate to intelligence? I treat wisdom as a core part of intelligence. I wish there were other systems that didn't do this.
And this gets to Charisma and Rogue classes talents to just side step morality. Like you could have a deep moral and philosophical discussion, actually try to convince people on your views or prove yourself... But nah, just a *charisma check* Just side step the dilemma away! I hate that, I hate the mentality that you can just trick anyone into anything, that no one actually has real convictions and just one dice throw away from giving them up. That you shouldn't bother role playing in this RPG. I dislike that so much and wish these games (tabletop and video games) didn't have that shit; a woman refuses to sleep with you? *Charisma check*, you murdered someone? *charisma check*. What a shallow and shit system yet so much of High Fantasy pulls this shit. And I'm not even getting into shit like drugging (ESPECIALLY "love potions") and using "Magic" to convince people into agreeing with and the fact these RPGs ALWAYS ignore the horrid implications of mind rape, remember it's okay if a "hero" does it! /s
Which relates to one of my biggest issues; I'm sick of RPGs just being power fantasies. Stuff like Charisma checks, always evil species, never confronting the morality of "good species" etc, it's all designed to not confront the players, never make them think deeper, never feel uncomfortable and question; because in the end it's all just a power fantasy. Why can't lesbians and gay men be companions in games like Baldur's Gate III or other fantasy games, because they "ruin my power fantasy" and "they can be gay in someone else's game". I'm sick of that mentality. I want more. I want to be challenged by these RPGs.
And with all that said, I'm just bored of D&D style games and Fantasy. It's one of the reasons why I'm so irked when I see people declare "All RPG videos must be like D&D/Baldur's Gate 3", like no, just stop it, let RPGs and High Fantasy be more diverse.

I specifically tend to not agree with Skill Up - like 50% of the time were polar opposite on things but I still love those videos. I only take issue this time due to omitting information which I don't think he did intentionally but just went with default settings without seeing what could be changed. Reviewing the default experience is fine.
