I'm dreading the GTA6 reviewers coming out because gamers are going to be vicious to ANY reviewer who dares says a single criticism.
And even beyond, it can often flatten discourse, people treating reviews (or in most cases the Metacritic aggregate score) as sacrosanct and anyone who disagrees or likes a "low" scored game is just an idiot or has "bad taste" etc or just refuse to play games below X score, potentially robbing themselves of experiences that they may have enjoyed. It's part of gaming culture I really don't like and it's often why I avoid the Review threads and prediction threads on ERA.
But we all know this... My actual question is... Why?Why did Metacritic culture spawn? What was the first publication to suffer this type of backlash for a "bad" review score? When did it spawn and why did it become so normalized in online discourse that it leaked back into the companies themselves (often setting targets for certain scores, dictating certain game designs or worse; being tied to bonuses for the devs etc) and just became an aspect of gaming culture we all just accept as normal? Because it's not really normal, the hyperfixation on review scores seen in gaming circles isn't really something I see outside of gaming when it comes to movies and TV shows and when I do see it, it's often gamers causing it there as well. So why did it become so normalized? And why Metacritic specifically?
Is it a byproduct of gaming's toxic hype culture where people hype themselves so much (often helped by certain press and publishers themselves) that they don't accept any kind of criticism or treat any kind of "negative" news as an attack (see journalists who have been attacked for just reporting on leaks, release date delays or just pointing out a game like Cyberpunk 2077 had areas that might be an issue for people epilepsy) or some weird slight to themselves?
Was it related to "REAL ART" insecurity many gamers were having at the time during the mid to late 00s? I don't know if people remember this, but back in the day press and fans were fixated on this idea that gaming needed to "prove" itself to be "REAL" art to impress film and TV snobs and elitists, I remember tons of articles like "Is Heavy Rain the first game to be considered "Art"", "Is The Last of Us the first true art game?" etc; or why gamers and companies got fixated on "cinematic" experiences or trying to mimic film. I personally always thought back in the day this was just silly (games were always art and it's waste of energy to try to convince and impress snobs who think otherwise), but I wonder if that lead to gamers fixating more on reviewers and "prestige".
Or was it just related to the growing pains the gaming community was having in the 00s? Where colourful and cheerful artstyles were shunned, anything perceived to be to "kiddie" was treated as bad and gamers needing to prove themselves "mature" by liking blood and "dark" and "serious" experiences that resulted in the 7th Gen being so grey and brown and stuff like the hyperfixation on "realistic graphic" and everything being so grim back then.

The Board of Directors of M.O.B.A. Network AB (publ) (the “Company”) has received a proposal regarding a new issue of maximum 11,915,962 shares with deviation from the shareholders’ preferential rights (the “Directed Issue”) and an authorization for the Board to issue additional shares, warrants and convertibles in the company (the “Issue Authorization”, together the “Proposal”). The purpose of the Proposal is to secure timely financing of the Company’s Amortization Undertaking under the Bonds (terms as defined below). Under the Proposal, the intended subscribers have informed of their intent to enter into binding subscription undertakings in respect of the Directed Issue and voting undertakings in respect of the Proposal. The Board intends to convene an extraordinary general meeting for the Company’s shareholders to resolve on the Proposal.
Background and purpose
On 26 May 2023, the Company issued corporate bonds in an original nominal amount of EUR 25,000,000 (the “Bonds”). Following an amendment of the terms and conditions of the Bonds, the Company is, amongst other things, required to amortize at least EUR 10,000,000 on the Bonds no later than by 30 September 2026 (or by such date have binding agreements in place to ensure that an amortization will be made). As of the date of this press release, the Company has already amortized EUR 9,000,000 on the Bonds, and thus has a remaining amortization obligation of at least an additional EUR 1,000,000 (the “Amortization Undertaking”). Failure to fulfill the Amortization Undertaking constitutes a breach of the terms and conditions of the Bonds and an event of default thereunder.
Against this background, the Chairman of the Board David Nylén and Board member Robin Stenman have, in their individual capacities as proposers (the “Proposers”) and not as a formal Board proposal, submitted a proposal to the Board regarding the Directed Issue.
The Directed Issue
The Proposers propose a directed issue of maximum 11,915,962 shares, with a subscription price of SEK 0.95 per share entailing total issue proceeds of maximum SEK 11,320,163.90 and an increase of the share capital by maximum SEK 1,191,596.20. The subscription price has been determined by the Proposers negotiating on an arm’s length basis with the intended subscribers and corresponds to both the closing price of the Company’s share on Nasdaq First North Growth Market on 14 September 2026 and the volume-weighted average price (VWAP) of the Company’s share during the ten trading days up to and including 14 September 2026. Of the total issue proceeds, SEK 4,450,000.45 is to be paid in cash and SEK 6,870,163.45 is to be paid by offsetting Bonds in a nominal amount of EUR 605,000 plus accrued interest on such amount, thereby reducing the Amortization Undertaking by EUR 605,000.[1] Any cash proceeds from the Directed Issue are intended to be used to finance the Company’s remaining payment obligation under the Amortization Undertaking.
The right to subscribe for the new shares is proposed to be granted to the following subscribers who all are existing shareholders in the Company[G&D1] :
· NanoCap Group AB: maximum 1,052,632 shares, corresponding to maximum SEK 1,000,000.40 to be paid in cash.
· Henrik Kvick (in person or indirect via a company): maximum 1,894,737 shares, corresponding to maximum SEK 1,800,000.15 to be paid in cash.
· AB Rugosa Invest: maximum 210,526 shares, corresponding to maximum SEK 199,999.70 to be paid in cash.
· BGF Foundation AB: maximum 1,263,158 shares, corresponding to maximum SEK 1,200,000.10 to be paid in cash.
· The estate of Eva Gottschlich (a related party of Mikael Gottschlich (Board member)): maximum 7,231,751 shares, corresponding to maximum SEK 6,870,163.45 to be paid by way of set-off.
· Björn Mannerqvist (Board member) (in person or indirect via a company): maximum 263,158 shares, corresponding to maximum SEK 250,000.10 to be paid in cash.
To the extent an eligible subscriber does not subscribe for the full number of shares set out above, the Board shall be entitled to allocate such unsubscribed shares among one or more of the other eligible subscribers. The intended subscribers have communicated their intent to enter into binding subscription undertakings in respect of their maximum subscription allocation under the Directed Issue and voting undertakings in respect of the Proposal, conditional upon similar undertakings being entered into by each of the other eligible subscribers.
Upon full subscription of the Directed Issue, the number of shares in the Company would increase by maximum 11,915,962 shares, from 22,682,820 shares to maximum 34,598,782 shares, corresponding to a dilution of approximately 34.44 percent of the number of shares and votes in the Company.
The Issue Authorization
The Proposers further propose an issue authorization for the Board to resolve on a new issue of shares, warrants and convertibles within the limits of the Company’s articles of association, as applicable from time to time.
Complete Proposal
The Board is in support of the Proposal and will publish the complete Proposal, including the Proposers’ reasoning in respect of the deviation from the shareholders’ preferential rights and the subscription price, in a separate press release convening an extraordinary general meeting along with additional information on the extraordinary general meeting.
[1] The claim under the Bonds has been converted to Swedish kronor applying an exchange rate of SEK 11.281 per euro. Item 7 – Resolution on a directed share issue with deviation from the shareholders’ preferential rights
Background
On 26 May 2023, the Company issued bonds for an original nominal amount of EUR 25 000 000 with maturity on 26 May 2026 (“The Bonds”). In the autumn of 2025, the Company initiated an attempt to refinance the Bonds through a new bond loan. This failed and the Company instead sought dialogue with major bondholders in order to change the terms of the Bonds and in connection with the extension of the due date for the Bonds. As a condition for accepting an extension of the maturity date of the Bonds, certain major holders required the Company to undertake to amortise by 30 September 2026 (or by this date, to have binding agreements in place at the latest to ensure that such amortization will take place) at least EUR 10 000 000 on the Bonds. The change in the conditional relations was subsequently voted through by a required majority of the holders of the Bonds and in April 2026 an amortisation was made for a nominal amount of EUR 9 000 000. After the cancellation of Bonds to a nominal amount of EUR 5 000 000, previously held by the Company itself, the outstanding nominal amount for the Bonds per today amounts to EUR 11 000 000. The Company is therefore obliged under the terms of the Bonds to amortize at least 1 000 000 additional euros under the Bonds (“the Commitment”). This may be done, for example, by certain holders of Bonds offset their claim during the Bonds against shares in the Company. Failure to comply with this Commitment by 30 September 2026 by 30 September 2026 constitutes a breach of the terms and conditions for the Bonds and that there is a basis for termination under them.
The Board of Directors has continuously assessed the Company’s financial situation and evaluated various options to ensure the Company’s continued financing and outstanding payment commitments under the Bonds. In light of these discussions, Chairman of the Board David Nylén and Board member Robin Stenman have in their individual roles as proposer, and not as a formal board proposal, submitted a proposal for a directed new issue of shares with deviation from the shareholders’ preferential rights (the “Aimed Issue”). The proposal is supported by other members of the Board of Directors, who are proposed to be entitled to subscribe in the Directed Issue (direct or indirect).
The proposal includes, among other things, that a claim against the Company of EUR 609 003,13 held by the estate after Eva Gottschlich (Mikael Gottschlich relative), corresponding to the nominal amount and accrued interest for the estate's holding Bonds, shall be set off against new shares in the Directed Issue. The proposal means that the claim is converted to Swedish kronor with an applied exchange rate of SEK 11,281 per euro. The exchange rate has been determined after negotiation between the proposers (defined below) and the estate after Eva Gottschlich, corresponds to the exchange rate published by the Riksbank of Sweden (EUR/SEK) on 14 September 2026 and is expected to be marketable.
The proposed set-off during the Directed Issue decreases, at full subscription and set-off, the Company’s payment obligation during the Commitment by 605 000 (equivalent to the nominal amount of the estate after Eva Gottschlich’s Bonds). To the extent that the Directed Issue provides the Company with cash, the issue proceeds shall be used to finance the Company's remaining payment commitment during the Commitment.
Full proposal for a decision of the proposers
David Nylén and Robin Stenman (“The Opponents”) propose that the Extraordinary General Meeting resolve on the Directed Issue and thus the new issue of no more than 11 915 962 shares, entailing an increase in the share capital by a maximum of SEK 1 191 596, 20, with deviation from the shareholders’ preferential rights, according to the following conditions.
The right to subscribe for the new shares shall accrue to subscribers (all of whom are existing shareholders in the Company), with the distribution shown below. Insofar as a warrantable does not subscribe for the full number of shares as below, the Board of Directors shall be entitled to allocate such unsubscribed shares among one or more of the other subscribers (whereupin the maximum number of shares that the recipient subscriber is entitled to subscribe for in accordance with the following shall be increased to the corresponding extent):

The issue includes a total issue proceeds of a maximum of SEK 11 320 163.90, of which SEK 4 450 000.45 in cash and SEK 6 870 163.45 by set-off. Oversubscription cannot take place.
The subscription price shall amount to SEK 0.95 per share and corresponds to both the closing price of the Company’s share on Nasdaq First North Growth Market on 14 September 2026 and the volume-weighted average price (VWAP) for the Company’s share on Nasdaq First North Growth Market during the ten trading days until 14 September 2026.
The part of the subscription price that exceeds the quota value of the shares shall be added in its entirety to the free share premium fund.
Subscription of the new shares shall be made on a separate subscription list by 7 October 2026. The Board of Directors is entitled to extend the subscription period.
Payment for subscribed shares shall be made in connection with the subscription. Payment shall be made in cash, with the exception of the estate after Eva Gottschlich who shall be entitled to pay for subscribed shares by offsetting a claim on the Company with a maximum of SEK 6 870 163.45. The Board of Directors is entitled to extend the payment period.
The new shares entitle the dividend to dividends for the first time on the record date for dividends that falls closest after the Directed Issue has been registered with the Swedish Companies Registration Office and the shares have been entered in the share register maintained by Euroclear Nordics AB.
The CEO, or the person appointed by the Board of Directors, is authorised to make minor adjustments that may prove necessary in connection with the registration of the decision with the Swedish Companies Registration Office and Euroclear Nordics AB.
The Company’s share capital amounts to SEK 2 268 282 before the Directed Issue, divided into SEK 22,682 820 shares. The quota value of the share is SEK 0.10. After the Directed Issue, the share capital will amount to a maximum of SEK 3 459 878,20, divided into a maximum of 34 598 782 shares.
Reasons for the deviation from the shareholders’ preferential rights
The purpose of the Directed Issue is to add working capital to the Company to finance its outstanding Commitment during the Bonds. Ahead of the proposal on the Targeted Issue, the proposers have carefully examined and considered alternative funding opportunities, including a rights issue. A rights issue would take significantly longer to prepare and implement, entail more extensive administration and higher costs and risk having to be implemented at a discount, with the accompanying press on the Company's share price. In light of the Company’s time-critical financing needs – where the Company, under the terms of the Bonds, must amortize at least EUR 1 000 000 by 30 September 2026 (or no later than 30 September 2026 (or no later than this date, have binding agreements in place to ensure that such amortization will take place) – a rights issue has not been deemed to be a fast enough and cost-effective option to ensure the Company’s ability to meet this Commitment on time. A forced divestment of assets under time pressure has also not been deemed to be in the interest of the Company or its shareholders.
Through the Directed Issue, the Company may receive the necessary capital earlier and thereby finance its outstanding payment commitments during the Bonds. The proposed subscribers have been identified through the proposers’ contacts and consist of investors who have shown interest in and ability to carry out an investment in the Company in a short period of time on the terms offered, which has been crucial in view of the time-critical financing needs. The proposers’ overall assessment is therefore that the Directed Emission currently represents the most advantageous option for the Company and its shareholders and that it is in the interest of both the Company and its shareholders to carry out the Directed Issue. If an alternative financing solution on acceptable commercial terms would be ensured before the Targeted Issue has been implemented, the raising of capital may be reconsidered or cancelled.
Determination of the subscription course
The subscription price has been established through negotiations between the proposers and the intended cartoonists at arm's length and, according to the proposer's view, corresponds to prevailing market conditions. In the assessment, the proposers have taken into account that the subscription price corresponds to both the closing price of the Company’s share on Nasdaq First North Growth Market on September 14, 2026 and the volume-weighted average price (VWAP) for the Company’s share on Nasdaq First North Growth Market during the ten trading days until 14 September 2026, and exceeds the subscription price that the proposers consider would be achieved through an accelerated bookbuilding procedure directed to a group of investors. The proposers therefore consider that the subscription price is marketable.
Dilution
In the case of full subscription of the Directed Issue, the number of shares in the Company would increase by a maximum of 11 915 962 shares, from 22 682 820 shares to a maximum of 34 598 782 shares, corresponding to a dilution of approximately 34.44 percent of the number of shares and votes in the Company.
Majority Requirements
Since the members of the Board of Directors Mikael Gottschlich and Björn Mannerqvist (directly or indirectly through related parties) are covered by the Directed Issue, the decision is covered by Chapter 16 of the Swedish Companies Act. The decision is valid only if it is supported by shareholders representing at least nine-tenths of both the votes cast and the shares represented at the meeting.
Item 8 – Resolution to authorize the Board of Directors to resolve on issues of shares, warrants and convertibles
The proposers propose that the Extraordinary General Meeting resolves to authorize the Board of Directors to resolve on a new issue of shares, warrants and payment in cash in cash during the period until the next Annual General Meeting, on one or more occasions, to resolve on a new issue of shares, warrants and convertibles with payment in cash, by set-off or with information. The issue shall be made with or without deviation from the shareholders’ preferential rights.
The total number of shares, warrants or convertibles that may be issued on the basis of the authorization may not result in the Company exceeding the limits according to the Company’s applicable articles of association at any time.
The purpose of the authorization and the reason for any deviation from the shareholders’ preferential rights is to increase the Company’s financial flexibility by being able to add new capital to finance the business in a time-efficient manner and secure the Company’s commitments during the Bonds and/or broaden the Company’s shareholder base.
Majority Requirements
The decision is valid only if it is supported by shareholders representing at least two-thirds of both the votes cast and the shares represented at the meeting.
Actions
Full proposal for resolutions and other documents under the Swedish Companies Act will be available at the Company and on the Company’s website, https://wearemoba.com, no later than 16 September 2026. The documents are sent free of charge to the shareholders who so request and provide their postal address.

But it's stupid they shouldn't have to do it!
My radical though is that manga or video games about spikey haired youths clashing swords don't need scantily clad girls on the side.
You see I was foolish, I thought ResetERA was actually cool. But as it turns out, only the cool people are in this thread. Because when I bring this up I get weirdos trying to shut me down by going "yeah but gacha games sell really well..."
It feels really annoying and dismissive. Obviously I know this type of content sells, that's not my argument. My argument is that I don't think this is what mainstream audiences are looking for. I know this because mainstream audiences have people who are not horny straight men in them only. We have examples of anime works like Pokemon that find great success and don't have this stuff in them. And I'm sure many people have personal experience where they've tried to sell anime on someone who is put off by the fan service and objectification. . But I guess because the only option for a AAA JRPG on your mobile phone are horny gacha games, none of this matters.
God knows how y'all stay sane if this is the BS you have to put up with day to day. How do you engage with people like this? is it even possible?
