Question about heels that I've been trying to figure out, so throughout most of human history, high heel shoes were a gender neutral form of clothes or in some cases more associated with masculinity, with men regularly wearing them like in Persia from Kings and even the Pope in some centuries.

So my question is when did that stop? I know the main high heels became heavily associated with women was because of 40s-50s era Pin-Up culture; was it just that? Can we make them gender neutral again or make it more common in fiction for men to wear heels? And why did it then become the norm to the point of a requirement that women in "formal" wear or just business clothes needing to wear heels?

I've said this before but I don't like heels, I don't like the feeling of my feet in the air or the feels I could easily slide to the left or right or snap off and hurt myself. I wish They weren't treated as THE feminine formal clothing wear. I hate formal rules in general though, like if I got married, I wouldn't want everyone to wear or be out of pocket wearing dresses and dull as hell suits, as long as they weren't wearing anything offensive, I'd be more happy they were just there, hell I'd love it if someone came cosplaying as an Orc or the Dark/Black Magician Girl. "Formal" to me just means replicating the style (and beauty and gender standards) of the rich and upper class as if their styles are "better", fuck that, fuckers shouldn't get that respect. Love wearing dresses, wear and rock those damn dresses but let people wear what they want, who is actually hurt besides people enforcing societal norms?

The hyperbole in this thread is significant. Canada exported $15~ million in weapons to Israel in 2025. Out of the $2 billion plus exported to every country but the US (we export more to the US). Most of that $15 million is through Canadian military goods was Canadian parts in US contracts (like thr F-35) so to control that export they would need to break contracts with US companies while we're delicately managing a trade war. Which is the Canadian government reaching in on private companies to dictate their existing contracts. There's been a moratorium on new contracts with Israel. We've also just pledged $100m to Palestine and sanctioning West Bank settlements.

I would love a world where we truly banned every export and sanctioned Israel until the genocide ended and a Palestine state was formed but anything Canada does is a drop in the bucket when the US war machine supports Israel (sending billions each year). And we have to navigate the contracts Canadian companies have with that war machine.

What the fuck? It's not simply about "dislike". People deserve to have a fuller picture of who they're supporting, especially since it involves donations. I'm not telling anyone to not donate or support Gene, people are free to do what they want. But I myself would want to know who I'm supporting if there's money involved.

I don't think it's wrong to point out the kind of person Gene has shown himself to be, supports, and defends. Not simply "associates with", but has actively defended even here on Era.
