People don't realize they are doing exactly the thing that allows so many men to get away with sexual assault. Most will tell you they are against it in the abstract, where they visualize a monster that they can't relate to. The reality is a lot of rapists are normal. When a judge has to hand down a verdict for a 21 year old man who raped a woman on a college campus, they go easy on him, even if they themselves never committed a crime, because all they see is a normal boy. When a fan is told a celebrity committed sexual assault, they won't believe it because they like them. The rush to defend Geller is exactly the same culture. There are those who don't want to believe he is actually bad because there would have to be an internalization that rape is something normal men do. A lesson that can't seem to actually get through to a lot of people this many years removed from Me Too.

 
 

Hell, I looked up some of the other names on that UNC list. Some others who were suspended for sexual assault are now working for Amazon or AWS and have University of North Carolina proudly plastered on their Linkedin.
