America is fucked!
We mildly kept up with him in the Mutual Aid thread and this is kind of overplaying it. He's moved crosscountry out from his parents (at large expense because he took all his toys and crap), got kicked out of one trans house when the transbian got a new transbian and is now in another one that owes thousands of dollars in unpaid bills. He gets nothing from unemployment and didn't get on benefits until just a couple months ago thanks to having moved to Oregon and that being a Blue State that will approve nearly anything.

That $17,000 disappears in no time and he has to constantly rebeg "for food" because he buys every new game, lots of Gundam crap and worst of all, massive amounts of delivered food because he can't cook.

Is just not Gundam the ones with the problem. Bolo

Vladimir Lenin, https://www.marxists.org/archive/lenin/works/1920/oct/02.htm wrote:But is there such a thing as communist ethics? Is there such a thing as communist morality? Of course, there is. It is often suggested that we have no ethics of our own; very often the bourgeoisie accuse us Communists of rejecting all morality. This is a method of confusing the issue, of throwing dust in the eyes of the workers and peasants.

In what sense do we reject ethics, reject morality?

In the sense given to it by the bourgeoisie, who based ethics on God's commandments. On this point we, of course, say that we do not believe in God, and that we know perfectly well that the clergy, the landowners and the bourgeoisie invoked the name of God so as to further their own interests as exploiters. Or, instead of basing ethics on the commandments of morality, on the commandments of God, they based it on idealist or semi-idealist phrases, which always amounted to something very similar to God's commandments.

We reject any morality based on extra-human and extra-class concepts. We say that this is deception, dupery, stultification of the workers and peasants in the interests of the landowners and capitalists.

We say that our morality is entirely subordinated to the interests of the proletariat's class struggle. Our morality stems from the interests of the class struggle of the proletariat.

...

That is why we say that to us there is no such thing as a morality that stands outside human society; that is a fraud. To us morality is subordinated to the interests of the proletariat's class struggle.

...

The class struggle is continuing; it has merely changed its forms. It is the class struggle of the proletariat to prevent the return of the old exploiters, to unite in a single union the scattered masses of unenlightened peasants. The class struggle is continuing and it is our task to subordinate all interests to that struggle. Our communist morality is also subordinated to that task. We say: morality is what serves to destroy the old exploiting society and to unite all the working people around the proletariat, which is building up a new, communist society.

Communist morality is that which serves this struggle and unites the working people against all exploitation, against all petty private property; for petty property puts into the hands of one person that which has been created by the labour of the whole of society.

...

When people tell us about morality, we say: to a Communist all morality lies in this united discipline and conscious mass struggle against the exploiters. We do not believe in an eternal morality, and we expose the falseness of all the fables about morality. Morality serves the purpose of helping human society rise to a higher level and rid itself of the exploitation of labour.

Emphasizing that while that line of thinking “doesn’t mean condoning abusive behavior,” Rock launched into his hot take.

“The problem with ‘wokeness’ — and don’t get me wrong, it is great that marginalized people have a voice; it is great to advocate for anybody that feels marginalized — but the problem is we’re in the Old Testament right now,” he explained. “The Old Testament has no forgiveness. The Old Testament didn’t work, so they had to write a remix called the New Testament.”

After Marchese noted that some say the “Woke 1.0 era, which refers to the immediate post-George Floyd era, was ‘crazy,'” Rock elaborated:

"Again, it’s great to help those that need help. We need more of that. The problem is when you institutionalize it. That’s the problem.

A lot of trans women seem to be into tarot, myself included. Probably helps that one of the best writers on the topic was a trans woman. I don't believe anything magical is happening with the cards, but I find that focusing on them in different combinations is a very useful tool for introspection and self-analysis. Hell, I've had multiple therapists deploy them as tools.

While I'm sure there are those who distrust science and enjoy astrology, I'd argue that this is correlation and not causation. Astrology likely has a certain appeal to people who've rejected science, but I really don't think dabbling in it makes you trust science less. I don't think I'm any less of a geneticist for playing with tarot cards.

To the issue isn't religion, it's just the tool for people's desire for power over others as with money and "objective truth" etc.

Sorry for the tangent there.

The interesting thing about astrology is that biggest criticisms I see of it come from other WLW and Lesbians, many of whom online I've seen don't like the stereotype or assumption that being a lesbian or into women = believing, liking or caring about astrology and wish it wasn't part of lesbian culture. Of course I've seen lesbian and WLW who do fully believe in it so it's not universal. Hell I've even seen this stuff online with WLW/Lesbian Witchcraft culture.

I may just be lucky but never really met anyone really into astrology, women, queer of otherwise. I do like researching their evolution of zodiacs and how the star signs have changed from culture to culture throughout history but that's just my love for history, myths and folklore talking. I honestly don't have any strong feelings either way with astrology, if people have fun, people have fun.

I had a phase of my life when I looked down on anyone with spiritual beliefs. Then I gradually realized what an insufferable prick I was being. Way too many people use atheism as an excuse to feel superior.

I'm still pretty much an atheist, but I've grown to be a bit more circumspect. Life is hard. We lean on all manner of abstract ideas and little fictions to keep ourselves going. Any philosophy you live by is going to contain some untestable assumptions about how things work. You're not a better person because you don't think yours are superstitious.

And I really take exception to superstition being lumped in with conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theories can be a gateway to more dangerous stuff because they all ultimately require secrets to be kept by some kind of sinister international entity with its hooks in everything, and at that point all paths lead to antisemitism. "You are being lied to all the time" is an infinitely more toxic mindset than "There are things you can't see".

As someone facing actual discrimination, it's comical to liken star signs to real-world prejudice with actual consequences. I'm trapped in a job I hate because I'm a trans woman, not because I'm a Capricorn. Libras don't get incarcerated at disproportionate rates. Pisces aren't banned from voting. Come on.

They're on such vastly different scales though. Comparing them feels almost insulting. We judge others based on a ton of different factors. I guarantee you that what sports team you support is going to have more impact on how people judge you than your star sign, and nobody would consider that to be a form of prejudice worth taking seriously.

Worrying about astrological discrimination when there are huge, measurable bigotries that seriously impact lives is like worrying you're going to overshoot your destination because of continental drift. Yes, it's technically a factor, but on such a tiny scale that it has no real world impact.

I think the reason I'm pushing back against the idea that astrology is somehow uniquely or distinctly prejudicial is that it just feels like another argument intended to pound on women for things popular with women, the same way culture constantly conditions men to dismiss women's hobbies and interests as not valid. "This is a thing girls do, therefore it must be bad", even though the overwhelming majority of people who engage with astrology likely don't engage with it on the level people are pretending they do in this thread. A lot of people just use it to look at themselves.
Girls got her panties in a bunch.

Quote:Ever since I watched the late 2000s/early 2010s atheist/skeptic movement implode into the current fascist movement via Elevatorgate into Gamergate I've largely struggled with any argument inherently looking down at religion or superstition.

That being said, at its most reductive, I think problems begin whenever someones wants to feel externally validated about their personal beliefs. Which, while completely understandable, can escalate rapidly:

—>The current scientific consensus doesn't accept my belief is real.
—> But, based on my own experiences, my belief is correct.
—>Does that mean they're hiding the truth? What else are they hiding?
—> Well, if the experts are wrong about this belief, why can't they be wrong UAPs/telepathy/bigfoot/flat earth/vaccines/the holocaust/racial bioessentialism too?"

It's a train of thought that can easily feed into super-conspiracies about repressed knowledge, or, at its worst, outright 'academia/science has been taken over by culture marxists or postmodernist' dogwhistles. I'm not trying to argue at all that this leap in logic is inherent. Not at all. And I think astrology, in particular, is the most resistant to this sort of escalation of thought.

To some extent, it's also what happened to the atheists/skeptics who went through the alt-right rabbithole. The other side of schism, as much as it still exists as anything vaguely resembling a movement, is still doing actual science-based activism. Rebecca Watson is still making solid, pro-science, anti-woo videos as the ultimate example. Versus her detractors like Richard Dawkins, have completely abandoned science activism in favour of outward bigotry, calling himself 'a cultural christian', allying with fascist mystics like Jordan Peterson et al and engaging in conspiracy theories about academia being infiltrated. In other words, a victim of the same radicalization pipeline of rejected knowledge I outlined earlier.

You can also see it with TERFs, where they oftentimes try to frame their arguments as scientific, or based in biology. But the current consensus in any related academic field rejects their ideas categorically. But instead of accepting that their beliefs are wrong, TERFs turn to conspiracy theories about how the truth is suppressed for political reasons. And, in that arena, they are allied with other far right movements who also believe truth is being suppressed for political reasons. And suddenly the TERF to nazi/'race realist'/etc pipleine starts to begin. Likewise, if you're someone who operates under a practice that holds beliefs related to inherent, dichotomous, divine feminine, then TERFs offering a "scientific" biological explanation for your spiritual belief might start looking attractive.

Sorry for the rambling post. It's just, for a long time, like I outlined at the start, I've been hesitant to in any way criticize relatively harmless beliefs. But, historically, fascism thrives in pseudoscience. And the current fascist movement is aggressively implementing recruitment and radicalization efforts through escalation of beliefs. And we know how algorithms can feed into that radicalization. And Woo and pseudoscience can be the most incredibly effective escalation tool for the reasons I outlined above. I'm not trying to argue it happens all the time, or even most of the time, But in 2026 I can't really hold to my old position that it's harmless. Especially when, as anything approximating a functional movement, the internet atheist pipeline, as much as it was the start of the alt-right, has been replaced and subsumed by other means.

Stars are real. You gotta burn your trash, and let that smoke go into the sky where it turns into stars.

So, my half a joke — the Salem Witch Hunts. I’m sure the first three witches they caught were actually f*cking witches. But then you open up a witch office, and now you gotta start lying. Now, you gotta f*cking make sh*t up ’cause you got overhead."
He so desperately wants to curry favor with Trump and be another Nazi star like Chapelle and Sydney Sweeney. Social Justice Warrior 2

The current problem for "forgiveness" is that the anti-woke crowd has correctly identified that wokeism is just in hiding until the "right people" can grab power again. And secondly they demand a blood sacrifice or some type of punishment or reparations for the damage done. Which at this point boils down to an entirely polarized and dysfunctional global society. With destroyed careers thanks to HR watchdogs, plummeted birth rates due to how women were shamed for wanting a family life with an average white man and white babies and botched gender surgeries and therapy as the tippy top of the iceberg.

Trump would be completely in his right to jail any and all advocates of the woke movement.
