You have to pay into Social Security for 10 years to get anything, meaning you have to work. You don't just get it. I understand taking care of those who have fallen on hard times, or can't work for whatever reason be that age, disability or something else. That's fine. I have a friend that literally can't work due to illness. I wouldn't consider her unemployed because she's not part of the work force. I'm fine with taking care of folks that can't work or take care of themselves, but not so for folks that can work.

Increasing disability and making it not damn near impossible to actually get? Sure. Making sure Social Security is actually secure? Sure. I support all of that. 100% employment rate is impossible in ANY country in the world. An expectation that everyone should be employed to survive is unrealistic and actually harmful at worst. and just supports the broken capitalist system that props up no one but the very well off.

Your logic might make sense if the system were not horribly discriminatory towards those who need the support the most. Many people struggle to get on supplemental income due to the very barriers that have been imposed, and straight up disability is often even harder to get with rules that regularly screw over the disabled.

Moreover, your last statement is kinda painting some really broad strokes there, don't you think? It is very much the same logic that leads to these barriers and discrimination in the first place.

You are 100% right, and we need only look to SSI for proof of this. People on it only get paid $914 a month, which well below the poverty level for pretty much every state. And that's a conditional program that is often the end of the line if you're too disabled to work, and never got a chance to get enough work credits for SSDI. Or got denied.

As someone whose been denied SSDI (ugh) this shit is incredibly frustrating. They're fucking ghouls the lot of them. it feels like things will never be better for people like me...

Things will not get better if we continue to presume that we do not have the power to collectively enact change for each other.

The first steps are to actually educatate ourselves regarding prior revolutionary successes and doctrine around the world, and then to organize our communities within that image through things like neighborhood pods, mutual aid orgs, and small parties. And in the midst of our organization, we cannot compromise philosophically with conservatives or even liberals because they absolutely will try to drag us back to the status quo. They're personally enriched by the cruelty and thus see no need to work towards truly moral and equitable standards.

The answers to change the vile state of our country have existed for pretty much hundreds of years. We have to simply read the work, follow the advice, and be uncompromising about it. Honestly? They act this way because they were the most coddled, privileged generation of all. Maybe of all time, depending on how this climate change thing goes.

My experience of the youngest generation just becoming adults is that they're the most hard working because they don't expect anything to be given to them. What the hell? It absolutely is society's job to take care of you. If there is one purpose for society it is to make sure everyone is ok as much as possible. And considering our capitalist system demands a constant amount of unemployment to grease the wheels and keep wages and inflation down, around 3 to 4%, which governments deliberately target, then society has a damn duty to do it. The idea that you should have no income and presumably should fuck off and die if you're not working is disgusting and wrong. That's before getting to people who can't work for various reasons.
