I am sadly very familiar with the emotionally abusive tactic of someone threatening suicide if their partner tries to leave them (not me, than God, but an immediate family member). Just horrible.

The server of the old bore was on its last legs and whenever you tried to access the forum you got error messages. Demi said that once the server kicks the bucket he's done with it and wont reup it so Benji quickly got this spin-off up and running and a lot of people went over while others stayed behind to go under with the ship. The odd thing is, as soon as the spin-off got running the server issues on the old bore solved themselves (maybe because of less traffic?) and now we got the weird situation where we have two bores.

So I was in a 'discussion' and the topics of the Confederacy and the Holocaust came up.

Anyway at one point someone brought up how they felt like the Confederates are bad but a lot better than Nazis and went on to say this was because under Nazism what happens is death and while black people in the Confederacy face a hellish life of slavery and torture it isn't absolute in the end and reversible like death was.


My reaction as you can imagine was one of disbelief and when I replied with "dude wtf, you did not just make that comparision and that the person who said this doesn't understand the horrors of slavery'

someone else then accussed me of thinking that slavery was worse than the Holocaust and my comments clearly communicated that. When I brought up that none of what I said even implies that in the slightest I was told that "I didn't say that they were equal" as a response and instead of being so hostile to the person making the initial comments and accussing them of racism I should have just calmly informed them why what they said was insensitive and hurtful as "There are absolutely superficial reasons why somebody might assume slavery was lesser than the holocaust. In the same way, I think there are superficial reasons why somebody might assume the holocaust was lesser than slavery. They are incorrect and uninformed, but on the face of it, it is not wild that somebody might think one is worse than the other if they've never put much thought into it"

So anyway what do you make of this whole thing. I find it really moronic and full of anti-black sentiments.

Tech companies and game studios could in recent years count on tax breaks and overall unrealistic favorable conditions. Amazon, Google and Microsoft were mostly focused on growth and marketshare so their cloud services were cheap and there weren't big differences in regulations and currency valuations between the EU, US and to a lesser extend Asia. Interest rates were low and there were lots of opportunities for marketing and partnerships with hardware manufacturers, publishers or software developers. This has all changed in recent years.  

We're now seeing the same thing happening across the tech sector, especially with rising labour costs in the mix. They need to improve margins, and they have three ways to do it:
1. Scale up with mergers to spread costs and reduce overhead
2. Cut staff
3. Increase revenues

The first is a long term solution but with Embracer we've seen that without cheap credit this can quickly go south. Suddenly costs balloon and it takes a long time for a new product to launch to offset those higher costs. 

Cutting staff is the second obvious solution but this usually leads to a company producing worse products or losing their ability to make games on their own all together.

Finally, jacking up prices is difficult as consumers are used to flat prices and cheap subscriptions by now. You can't suddenly ask $30 more because your game is delayed for 3 years. And you certainly can't keep those prices up at that level for long. 

It's a big headache and the obvious next step is more outsourcing to cheaper countries, which is already happening. Keeping a skeleton crew at the 'brand name' studio in the west who delegate the actual work to Eastern Europe and Asia.

Watched this when it originally dropped. It's an evergreen video, so long as we continue to fail miserably on at least attempting to make intersectionality part of our praxis. As Swolesome said, it is an ironic recognition of the same power dynamics that foster one's own oppression, where people who already feel marginalized in some way will react defensively in an effort to maintain some sense of power and control. "Don't criticize me, I'm x, y, z minority." It's nonsense.
