GTA is one of my biggest "problematic favs". I've been a huge fan of the series since GTA3 and have played every installment since then. It's a series I fell in love with while surrounded by an extremely racist and right-wing friend group (I never fell into their rhetoric, but I enabled it by not saying anything) and one that I still love now that I'm a 39 year-old queer, non-binary, anarchist. I very much have to shut off a part of my brain to play it these days.

A third of the way into the video, but it really highlights the importance of intersectionality when it comes to marginalization, discrimination and privilege. Moreover, if you have not experienced intersectionality extensively firsthand (that is to say, you haven't belonged to two or more marginalized groups for an extended period of your life) then it's easy to use your minority status to deflect criticism elsewhere. As noted in the "Dragging Dunham" section, unconsciously seeing all criticisms as criticism of your minority status.

This video is speaking to me on a personal level, having dealt with discrimination as a disabled person, as a gender minority, and as a sexual minority.

The section on Vaush and Keffals has left me a little bit upset, so I'll finish watching it later.

Safe to say, autism is not a defense for saying racist, sexist, bigoted crap. You not only hurt other marginalized communities when you say things like that, but also hurt other autistic people when you allow your autism to be used as a defense for your actions.

Gonna watch it now. But going by what you posted OP, big agree. It's important to consider intersectionality and to make it one of the main parts of our principles, and to fight to bring to the forefront in the spaces that we belong. We are not just one thing, and even if (we) are, truth is that is not the case for everyone, and empathy for those whose issues go across many different parts of themselves, and those who might belong to different groups to us.

That was a really good video. Intersectionality is so, so important. Divide and conquer, playing various minority groups out against each other has been an old strategy and those falling for it continue being fools.

Watched this when it originally dropped. It's an evergreen video, so long as we continue to fail miserably on at least attempting to make intersectionality part of our praxis. For one, we put way too much focus on singular individuals to be leaders and exemplars of our communities (literally a fatal mistake) to the point that some folks will absolutely compromise on basic principles the moment some of them inevitably turn out to be assholes; like, Keffals being trans, and even standing up to KF, doesn't mean anything in the context of how she views Black people, and you cannot reasonably say you consistently care about Black issues if you're willing to give her actions a pass. I know this is primarily about games but I have to talk about something adjacent to games because it's gotten so creepy and disgusting imo. During the pandemic the street fighter "news" website Eventhubs started doing articles on cosplayers (and you can guess 99% of the time female cosplayers ) and the articles headline and thumbnail were just pure thirst trap clickbait stuff, it got to the point I deleted my account on there, I didn't want to be associated with that site anymore, the final straw was an "article" of two Cammy cosplays (you can imagine the pics) and it was encouraging you to judge and comment which one you prefer (total yuck/skeeze factor). The way the articles were written would also be creepy to, often describing the cosplayers as pieces of meat.

Anyway fast forward to today and in a different thread someone mentioned eventhubs having an article relevant to that thread so I decided to go on eventhubs and the top "article" is a cosplay one which title is "You'll need to fan off after seeing Silverr Fox' glistening big booty Kitana cosplay" and they've added a cosplay tag to their articles and basically every single article is sexy this, skin tight that, curves in all the right places and the thumbnails just being blurred out ass pics or whatever pic they think would get people to click on it. Not only this but the icon they use for their cosplay tag is two circles with a smaller circle in them (essentially breasts)

I know this may not sound that extreme compared to wider media issues with women but the fgc has had very big issues in the past in regards to women and not making them feel welcome or actively making it hostile for them and despite all the progress that's being made this is just taking 3 steps back. To make matters worse eventhubs is like the only "news" site for fighting game stuff so it's a website most people even with a cursory interest might interact with and this is how they want to present themselves.

Anyway I'm sorry for this mini-rant I hope its not too off topic to have been posted here, it's just been bothering me for ages and the objectification is just getting worse, it's creepy, sleazy and exploitative

Only one cosplay article on the front page, nothing salacious about the thumbnail (unless you count the game's original artwork to be salacious), and no mentions of "pieces of meat" in the article and only what you would describe as slightly adjacent sexualizing in the text.

Edit: Only one cosplay article on the second page. It's an incredible Goro costume from Mortal Kombat.
