I like the parts of the story that the FFXVI demo showed, but it is obvious that it wants to be GameOfThrones/SongOfIceandFire tone wise (or FinalFantasyTactics/VagrantStory if you want to be generous with Square), so one of the key elements to do that is “realism” and verisimilitude. That doesn’t mean they cannot throw black characters or female knights, but the plot really wants to have medieval political intrigue in a very flawed and bleak setting. House of the Dragon can have black nobles riding dragons (and people will still bitch about the wigs), but Targaryen and related houses are the equivalent of “elfs” in the setting; an already out of place faction. What I’m saying is that you need to be careful with this elements or it look like kitsch Disney attempts of drama (see Forspoken).

There's been a few "Americans don't know how to protest" takes I've seen in here, that I want to push back on heavily. There have been plenty of effective protests movements in America over the the past decade alone. But they're usually done by people who are willing to sacrifice because they have nothing else to lose. People of Color, women, LBGTQ+, etc.

I planned a vacation to Hawaii for myself and my daughter, it was a little last minute but everything came together. We were crazy excited to be staying out away from the touristy areas. Found what I thought looked like a nice Airbnb with a HOT TUB and close to the south beach and the volcano as well.

After a delayed flight, waiting for an hour in line for our rental car, getting snacks, and driving forty five minutes... We arrived.

Cozy little place in the jungle. Well lit, clean-ish, simply decorated, with a cool outdoor shower, and the aforementioned HOT TUB.

All was well until I looked for the trashcan to throw away my hamburger. I first looked under the kitchen s- oh my god what the fuck was that. Why are there two of them?! Was that just my imagination??? Those weren't cockroaches, they were just other.. non-cockroach bugs native to the environment.

I took a beat, calmed myself. Turned on the kitchen light. And opened the cabinet beneath the kitchen sink.

It scurried just out of the light and stopped, wiggling its little feelers. A big, fat, motherfucking adult cockroach. Here to say fuck you, fuck your vacation: you're in MY house with MY family (I saw a couple of babies scurry away).

God damn it. I cannot stay here. So I message the hosts and tell them... Hey, y'all got cockroaches living here. I will need to find somewhere else to stay and will need to request a full refund.

They did not take that very well. "You will find insects all over the island." Bro, I grew up in rural Ohio, I do not mind random insects visiting me or random critters. I do mind sharing a space with a family of cockroaches. Seriously Era, am I overreacting here?

Anyway, I drove back up to Kona, another 45 minutes. Got some overpriced resort while I wait and see what Airbnb does about this.
