I don't know if this is the place for suggestions, but if this software allows it I think that added a "like" button in threads would be very beneficial. Like blu-ray.com has. That way, one doesn't need to constantly be spamming comments just to say you agree with someone, where a simple "like" would do. It's faster, and less cluttering, allowing for actual posts to be the more substantial ones.

We've had this discussion many many times and the staff have said it's not happening.

What happens if someone posts something bigoted and further gets banned for it, but the post also has like 100 likes? That is for one going to make people feel very uncomfortable....and then you have to ban everyone that liked.

Just wanted to chime in and agree with this. I'm gonna quote myself from the last time this popped up. The recent South Park special thread is a great example of this.



I get the idea behind wanting it, and 99% of the time may be fine but I think it opens a door to make our marginalized users feel attacked or unwelcome.

The sheer amount of micro-aggressions that would occur and eventually be normalized in this community if there was a like system. Like imagine people bringing up the issues with Stellar Blade and then the usual "CANT WAIT FOR THIS GAME!" driveby gets a ton of likes. Now substitute that for the multitude of times that happens when game, movies, etc. have issues pointed out and there is a discussion going. It would objectively make this website worse.

And don’t get me started on the sheer uptick in people trying to get the hottest take out as fast as possible for the sake of the numbers.

you don't "have to". And people can unlike things, same as they can edit their posts and delete quotes and things.

Mods can see posts that are edited and even revert them. And yes...you do have to, unless you're cool with bigots just now openly on the forum.

someone quotes a post voicing approval. Someone likes a post (implying approval). It's the same thing except fewer cluttering, thread boosting replies. Threads could be way smaller and not have to have multiple versions. If you're banning people for quoting with approval and you think you need to do the same with likes, then do it. Why is that a problem?

Here's the thing with a like button: you start posting to get likes instead of to have a conversation. Now people already do this sort of thing because the behavior carries over from twitter, but I think we'd all prefer the situation not get worse.

Sorry, I don't hang out in this thread. I didn't realize it's a regular discussion. The type of behavior you mention does not happen on the forums I'm involved in which have that feature.

As it is they get a hundred of so replies of "This game looks good!", "day one!", etc, instead of just likes. If likes were allowed you would only have a handful of those driveby posts getting a ton of likes. Think about it. It'd be easier to track for your blocking pleasure!

Someone just needs to make a Stellar Blade thread with a "Are you getting this game?" poll. Watch how fast it's locked.

They're only complaining because they're not smart enough to see ahead to how they can report likes to the forum cops and use likes to build cases of a history of history.

The first two DLC characters are an Arab and a Chinese woman…is that not good enough for one of the most diverse video game franchises ever? 

The way they just listed random regions shows they don't actually care and they're just parroting something they read elsewhere.

Like... adding an Australian representative wouldn't just "cover" Oceania and no NZ required, let alone the pacific islands. A pacific islander character would be cool but it's not like they're "represented" by a guy from Sydney. You really think slotting in a single character from those gigantic regions means GG you win representation for the whole area? lol
