I recently discovered that my current partner had passed away from suicide after a long fight with depression. For the last month, I had been attempting and failing to contact her after a series of concerning messages. Only to find out the entire time I was trying to reach her, she was already gone. It's something I thought could have been the case as I kept trying and failing to get a hold of her, but actually knowing, finding her obituary was an entirely different thing.

I'm really struggling to really process that she's gone, thinking I could have done more, could have said more. Could have been there more. Reading her obituary bothered me even more, as she was constantly deadnamed, had old photos used, and wasn't the woman that she was. She deserved so much more and better

I've never had to experience death to someone this close before. I can barely fucking function anymore. I look at things she gave me and that we enjoyed together and it brings me nothing but pain. I miss her so much. I don't even know what I'm supposed to feel right now, how I'm supposed to feel.

So trans people being dead named in obituaries and funerals is unfortunately all too common, my roommate was heavily dead named after their suicide and to me that hurt almost as much as their death did because it felt like their identity was being erased.
