Visually speaking the hologram stuff is super impressive and honestly the one minute video I just watched looked like fun. 

That big Samsung panel pushed up to the edge of the stage sucks, that is just a shitty product. Though I’m not sure the kids will be too upset. Which is the point, this shit is for children. It’s a cartoon character on a screen of one form or another. Just watch this shit at home and let the kids have their fun. Wrong. After the ATARI crash Nintendo wanted to bring their arcade games into homes but they realized the risk would be too big to shrink down that type of hardware.
In addition they knew that no American or Japanese retailer wanted to stock videogame consoles. So instead they set out to create a "toy" for the US market and a "family computer" for the Japanese market that would cost no more than $99, which meant licensing the cheapest by then decade old CPU design and pairing it up with a rather neat custom sprite chip. All the toy and computer things fell by the wayside once the main focus became the games. 

Unlike SEGA, who just picked the Motorola 68000 32-bit CPU for the MegaDrive, Nintendo licensed a CPU already customized by Apple for the SNES and made even more changes to it like increasing the RAM. They also went to Sony for a custom sound chip design. In addition they revamped the controller by adding 2 more face buttons and introduced shoulder buttons. Something the first 3-button MegaDrive controllers didn't have. You could argue that the SNES was actually Nintendo's first pure videogame console and the first console that was nearly 100% custom designed, not derived from arcade hardware or put together from existing parts.

- The GBA was just a more powerful GB & would've surpassed the original if the DS didn't cut its life short.

Wrong again and it wouldn't have surpassed the original. Nintendo thought it would too so they made the GameBoy Micro but by the time that landed the GameBoy hardware sales had already plummeted. The people buying were basically just replacing their broken GBAs, buying Flashcart+GBA bundles or cheap gifts. Games were selling less and less so third parties were also scaling back support. Nintendo released a prototype hardware unit and demo games (DS phat, Metroid Prime Hunters, Steel Diver, Yoshi Touch & Go) with a GBA cartridge slot because the GameBoy was fading fast. Remember the DS thumb strap that fucked up your screen and playing Super Mario 64 with a D-Pad? 

- The 3DS faltered early on due to Nintendo's own hubris.

It wasn't hubris it was cost. The 3DS released around the time smartphone and tablet sales were surging. Screens were expensive, it's why each 3DS came equipped with a hodgepodge of different quality types of screens. It was just a matter of what they could get their hands on. To drop the price by $50 Nintendo had to eat up quite some cost. The hardware inside was also plan B. Nintendo had hoped to use a more powerful Nvidia Tegra but that didn't pan out (most likely because of poor battery life) so they had to replace it with a less capable graphics chip. Nintendo also wanted to position it as a more 'fashionable' device for adults. The part of it that was maybe Hubris was that they thought they could get away with just 1 thumb stick for 3D games and had to create that circle pad expansion monstrosity that hooked up to the IR port. 

- The Wii U had a multitude of factors holding it back.

After the dust settled everyone pretty much agreed that it was the name and branding that held it back more than anything. The fact that they had to quickly issue comparison sheets to retailers in between release and Christmas already showed there was something seriously wrong with the branding. Nintendo focused so much on the GamePad that they didn't show the system at all and thus all the normies thought it was just another Wii peripheral. The same Wii U Draw tablet they had returned earlier that bankrupted THQ. It wouldn't have fixed all the systems problems but it would've prevented it from being dead in the water the day after release. They could've sold twice as much in the first 6 months had they called it Nintendo GamePad or whatever.

his post is based on the surface level take of standard gaming device -> more powerful standard gaming device, compared to the sometimes wildly disruptive nintendo where they're like OMG 2 SCREENS AND A TOUCHSCREEN! OMG WEIRD MOTION WAND THING! and how those were some of their biggest successes

in some ways the snes was more powerful nes, but when you get granular into the details, it wasn't, in the same way the ps3 wasn't just a more powerful ps2, even though you can say it still didn't innovate the way the wii did

but you can't just look at it on the surface like that as everything depends on surrounding factors, sometimes just global economics they have no control over

"switch but more powerful" could be massively successful if it plays the same cartridges and has the same digital library, as people have been conditioned to slide into smaller, smoother upgrades with phones and ps/xbox

if it seems like a natural extension of what you already have, there's less of that moment of "hmm is this new less-supported device worth the money yet"

and it also depends on if it's powerful enough to get ports of current popular games, like imagine if switch 2 could do baldur's gate 3

in parts of the US where women suddenly can't get abortions and are dying from complications, yes that's horrible, and that's why things are going to eventually change in those states leading to conservative losses

that still doesn't mean that broadly it was a bad idea to leave it in the hands of states like many other types of laws that might have an influence on matters of life and death

It's kind of funny how they have this head canon that people that enjoy the game are actually "in denial" of how the characters are portrayed and somehow "ashamed" of playing it but not willing to admit that they are.

Overall though people like the game because it offers a complete package.
Great soundtrack, interesting game design, stellar performance, probably a good story, great combat and yes an appealing character.
All ingredients that make the product more fun and entertaining as opposed to playing as a slob painting graffiti in a Spider-Man game for Woke Points.

Almost like it's less about progress and more about hogging the attention.
