Yesterday, I was hanging out with my friends from high school. I have known them for over 10 years and I consider us to be close friends. We have a lot of fun when we hang out together, but they are strangely jealous and very materialistic. I invited a friend to eat out and he told me that it was expensive but he wouldn't mind but he said "You couldn't afford it". I don't understand why he said such a thing. My other friend was unnecessarily jealous. All three of us are 27 years old. But I get comments from outside that I look too young. More than 20 people said that I looked 20 years old at most. I'm not bragging about this, but when I said this while we were hanging out yesterday, a friend of mine got angry and claimed I was lying. Afterwards, he showed me a message from a girl saying "You look 22-23 years old" and said that I looked like I am in my 30s. Frankly, I think such a thing is very childish and I have become alienated from my friends. I enjoy hanging out with them, but they have different egos. I think I'll limit hanging out with them. After all these years I really don't have true friend.

and it was one of the most amazing thing I've ever experienced.

It's one of those things I would have never expected to try in my life but here I am, yesterday I ask my girlfriend almost as a joke if she would try to try such a thing and she said yes, let's to it tonight.

I'm really shy in general but for some reason, I had no problem at all. People were really friendly, open minded, etc. it was just a really fun night and I just can't wait to try it out again (we bought an annual pass so must likely we'll try it out again in the near future).

Anyway, have you ever been to such a place and if so, did you like it ?

While it is disgusting that these people are blantant about their attraction to children which is really gross and scary as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, it is worth noting that most real life pedophiles aren't even excluisvely attract to children (and some not attracted at all) with it more being about abusive power dynamics and wanting absolute control over the children. Like cool, the world we've built off of fossil fuels and road systems allows you to get a video game console with one-day shipping from Amazon. Do you have any meaningful relationships with other human beings? A job that pays you what you're (actually) worth? Good healthcare? Walkable infrastructure? Are you a minority?

Like, toss a stone at any thread on Era and you will find it riddled with people who are just ridiculously unhappy for one reason or another, even under a Western standard of living. What are those people losing if you're unable to waste as much because the systems at play don't allow you to, or have to take more public transportation, or you can't do one-day shipping anymore?

I don't know about you, but if you told me getting rid of fossil fuels meant I could have a better life by the standards that actually promote healthier, happier living, and not just the ones that facilitate mindless consumerism and dangerous travel along highways built over my ancestors ' homes, I would make the trade in a heartbeat. And frankly, I don't think you're ever going to move the needle as much as you need to if you're defaulting to the alternatives always resulting in a worse standard of living anyway. That we have to keep up this ridiculous system of production and waste or else we are worse off. We have to actually be more optimistic and imaginative.

Of course, "just stopping" isn't feasible right now because way too many systems rely on oil, but it should still be the utmost goal to work towards. Because we're going to run out of oil anyway if we keep this up. And then what? It isn't our problem because that's too far off? The worst climate change predictions are slated for 2100. Do we just kick the can down the road more than what we are doing now because most of us will be dead by then? Of course not.

No oil is the finish line.

You're assuming the null hypothesis is "healthier, happier living" rather than abject poverty and subsistence living where the state mandates one choice about how to live and forces it onto everyone. You aren't even making an argument for your position just saying "yeah but imagine if it was better" rather than explaining why life with greater energy costs, less freedom of movement and less access to resources would be superior and make miserable losers happier than they are now.
