Only one degree of separation from me and Ed. I had a teacher that was from Plainfield. Ed used to babysit them.

This is where you hit like on this post because I didn't go for the MCU and nobody's ever been Iron Man low hanging fruit.

because choosing to become a doctor is not an immutable characteristic of a person's body and existence

now what you should ask is why it's ok for a brown-eyed actor to play a novel character described as blue-eyed
Oh, wow, are you literally dismissing that someone's lived experience of finding their life calling? Like you're really seriously telling artists to allow AI to replace them because they can choose to do something else? Like, I can't even right now.

Look, I'm sorry I wrote something that offended you. Genuinely. You must know it wasn't my intention to make fun of any of it. At all. But... aren't we on the same side concerning this movie? Yeshrug

wikipedia policy is a maze of inconsistencies, applied at random depending on who is doing the editing

maybe policy is "pages should reflect the current, most up-to-date identity the individual expresses preference for"

sounds simple enough, right? but now you have to prove they are expressing that preference, and you must use "reliable sources," you can't use "original research," often not even words out of the person's own mouth

if a subject is not that controversial, articles will go for decades without dispute from accurate-but-less-respectable sources

if it is controversial, editors will fight tooth and nail to prevent perfectly reasonable sources from being used to make claims which go against their narrative, until evidence becomes overwhelming, like in the case of Sacheen Littlefeather's questionable heritage

what if Fox News states that the Philly shooter was trans?

Quote:Kevin Li recently faced a daunting task. Wikipedia contributors had just spent nearly two months locked in a heated debate over whether Fox News’ website should be permitted as a reference for the encyclopedia’s political and scientific content. More than 150 users weighed in, leading to a thread more than 82,000 words long, roughly the length of an average novel.

Li, a volunteer Wikipedia administrator and public policy graduate student at Stanford, had offered to close the discussion, meaning that he had to read the entire thing, plus the dozens of sources linked by participants, and boil all of it down to a single statement expressing the community’s rough consensus. It took him between 10 and 15 hours to do so, he told me.

The final result: Li found consensus that Fox be deemed a “marginally reliable” source for information about politics and science. This means that its use as a reference in Wikipedia articles will not be permitted for “exceptional claims” that require heightened scrutiny, but that its reliability will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis for other claims.

It also comes with some important caveats (a staple of Wikipedia bureaucracy). It applies only to reported news articles on foxnews.com, not to opinion articles or to opinion talk shows, which are considered generally unreliable. (Wikipedia tries to avoid using opinion sources to cite anything other than information about the beliefs of the source’s author.) It also does not apply to news from local affiliates owned by Fox, nor to Fox articles about nonpolitical and nonscientific topics, which are considered generally reliable.

There’s this odd trend where nobody gives a shit if a straight actor plays a gay character, but you’re the asshole if you say it’s okay to do. Few months ago people were praising knives out 2 for having Daniel Craig and Hugh Grant as a gay couple.
The One Piece wiki pages when Yamato was supposedly trans (shes not) were a whole mess of perma-bans. The Wiki Warriors are a wild bunch deserving of their own whole thread probably.

Unfortunately not.

If it was any other member, they would have easily been hit with a 2 week or 1 month ban for antagonizing users.

But because TheGummyBear is a ban-baiting cunt with the all important trans flag avatar, he gets off extremely lightly with just a pathetic threadban. Not even a 1 day, or 3 day, ban.

One year after Dobbs, a record amount of anti-LGBT legislation has been unleashed across the country. What’s needed now—more than ever—is solidarity among marginalized genders.

...

Well before Dobbs, transgender activists have been warning that when you come for our body autonomy, everyone is at risk for losing their agency — especially other marginalized genders. Yet, our community and issues often go ignored by mainstream outlets. For example, Media Matters for America found that cable and broadcast television networks only covered anti-trans violence for a total of just over six hours in the same year Roe v. Wade was overturned.

Cisgendered allies must learn from the trans community when it comes to body autonomy. That especially means seeking out our words, stories and leadership when mainstream media won’t — or worse, when mainstream media portrays us and trans issues in a negative light. We are the people right-wing politicians have been practicing their restrictive legislation on. One year after Dobbs, trans people continue to bear the brunt of what could come next for everyone else. It is as important as ever to build solidarity networks amongst marginalized genders.

...

This reality not only heightens the risk of dying, but also can raise barriers for trans people to imagine possibilities for family planning at all. In both cases, these are shades of genocide.

We can also learn a lot about body autonomy from disability activists. Like trans people and people who seek abortions, people with disabilities are inherently framed as broken and irresponsible. This plays well into the long U.S. history of stripping rights and punishing those “unfit” for a “productive” society. This dynamic lends itself to the perpetual discrimination of anybody who isn’t interpreted as an able-bodied, heterosexual, cisgendered man. It’s the idea that the rest of us can’t think for ourselves. And, when we do, we are a danger to ourselves and to the lives of others.

The concept of pro-choice should not only apply to cisgendered women or able-bodied people, and the concept of pro-choice should not only be considered in the conversation about abortion. People of all marginalized genders and bodies make choices — whether it be related to gender-affirming care or reproductive care — to include ourselves in our own futures.

Removing the idea of consistent moderation from the scene though, I would argue a threadban is all that is necessary for this type of behaviour in any context other than the hellscape that is Reeeesetera.

Like, if someone did that shit here or in any other forum, it would be a simple matter of telling the offender to pull their head in and stop being a dick.

However, Reeee staff must consistently over-react and resort to bans and nuclear option punishments because they're fucking idiots who can't seem to understand that a soft-hand approach is better than just banning everyone for doing anything that NepNep personally disagrees with.
